"as the smaller Pixel settles for the same camera hardware as last year's Pixel 8" I think you meant to say "last year's Pixel 7" here

Pumpino, 04 Dec 2023How often does it get security updates? Every three months?Probably every 3-4 months, I think.
I don't pay too close attention to it, I must admit.

Btw, just to correct my previous post, I have the EEA ROM (TKBEUXM), not Global.
It seems like Global is ahead and have already received security patch for November 2023 last month (V14.0.7.0.TKBMIXM), EEA has not yet received it.

I have not tried Xiaomi.EU, but it should be as easy to flash as any other :-)

As for phone sizes, I'm on the other side and want even bigger devices :-D

The Xiaomi 13 is a great size for me, but it's too expensive. The 12X is cheaper but has a curved display. Xiaomi needs more compact midrange options.

Pumpino, 24 Nov 2023Thanks for the info. So you don't think Xiaomi'... moreCorrect, well also other ad supported apps, like themes (possibly region dependent and if it even is ad supported in HyperOS) and that is only an assumption. It may well be that it does not use targeted ads at all, if it is ad supported and obviously that is also only if used.

The 14 series from Xiaomi is the first one I have seen running HyperOS.

Just like MIUI, it looks like the UI is highly customizable. As for changes it is claimed to have better CPU and RAM utilization and generally speaking it is more optimized.

It also takes the next step with enhanced intercompatibility with other Xiaomi devices, even their car.

Marco M, 24 Nov 2023The phone is running HyperOS. Consider it as when Samsung w... moreThanks for the info.

So you don't think Xiaomi's software "phones home" (if one avoids using its web browser) any more than a Pixel?

Have we seen phones with HyperOS widely released yet? I believe it's fairly new. I'd be interested to see what the visual changes are from MIUI. Hopefully it's still possible to change the appearance of the quick settings. I despised the iOS style.

Pumpino, 22 Nov 2023When you say the Xiaomi 14 runs a new UI, do you mean MiOS?... moreThe phone is running HyperOS. Consider it as when Samsung went from Touchwiz to OneUI. The only places it is phoning home to is google, when using Chrome and other google apps like play store, gmail, maps etc. If you use Xiaomi's browser it sends data to them, so they can profit from targeted ads just like google does and to Opera if you use Opera browser and so on and so forth. Same with any ad supported app, like facebook, instagram etc. They build ad profiles on you to target ads.

Brave browser is of the more recommended privacy focused browsers I've found. Dolphin Zero as well.

                    4G bands 1, 3, 4, 5, 8, 18, 19, 26, 28, 34, 38, 39, 40, 41, 42, 48, 66
                    5G bands 1, 3, 5, 8, 28, 38, 40, 41, 48, 66, 77, 78 SA/NSA

If I wanted to spend 1100 euros on a phone I wouldn't buy a Pixel, so Pixel 8 wins (if that can't be called victory...)

I still think Pixel 8 is too expensive consider that its hardware is less than what you'd expect from a flagship released on Q4 2023... so you could go figure my thoughts about spending 300 euros more just to get better ultrawide and telephoto camera

I forgot Edge 30 Ultra, Razr 40 Ultra and Edge 40 Pro are all budget entry phones. The biggest problem with Motorola flagships is that they take forever to launch software updates and their camera quality is not impressive.

I'm not sure what if anything is actually happening on the chip. I don't push my phone enough to care too much about the benchmark scores but you can't deny it's a mid range processor.

Anonymous, 22 Nov 2023Pixel fanboys still in denial over the fact that xiaomi 14 ... moreTo be fair, the Xiaomi is way less useful in the US, if you're looking at network compatibility and bands, and that's where a majority of Pixel buyers are located. This is a main driver for many people buying smartphones. There's also the fact that Xiaomi only pushes security updates for 2 years, compared to Google's 7 years of updates and support. And say what you want about the curved screens, but they are not as useful as the flat screen of the 8 Pro.

The cameras are definitely better on the Pixel 8 Pro and an arguably better stock OS. This may also be a decider for some buyers.

But the Xiaomi is way better priced (unless you factor in US promos) and has a much more capable SoC. This is a bang-for-the-buck phone that would be great in Europe or Asia.
