Yes, Software advancement is only one of many aspects, but it is the most important factor on a phone.
A decades old company like Sony must not create a phone with bad software quality like a two years old chinese phone brand.

Sorry to the Xperia fans here, but I don't think it will be an attractive phone for global in the future.
Price too high? That's right. There are not 3 million units sold in the world, but the components are expensive.
Have you never seen anyone using it? Yes, more than 90% of them are in Japan.
Why are sales continuing? Here in Japan, 1V can be purchased from around $700 due to promotions, so it is selling well and is a profitable business.
And the president of the company has officially said that they are making smartphones because they need the technology to make them for their other businesses. (not for the customer)
So, Xperia will continue to be produced, but it will continue to be a less attractive phone for everyone.

Nick Tegrataker, 27 Nov 2023No, I'm playing any "game" nor intending to ... moreExactly, I've said one of the highest sustainable brightness displays and you named like 4 other displays that have higher sustainable brightness than 1V but you missed out on Pixel 8 and 8 Pro which hands down have the highest manual output to date.
Anyway, since you are in love with the specs here is one for you: 1V can burn above 600 in manual mode, you can go through all the GSMA 22-23 phone archive to find which phone burns more than that in manual mode and you will find only few of them.
I am not arguing here, I am just stating that Xperias 1IV/1V have the state of the art display that Samsung cannot match but unless you can see the two side by side it's very hard to depict that. 1IV/1V like every other flagship has tons of issues but display is not one of them like people commenting here want you to believe.
1IV has the soft frame which will scratch and peel off paint super fast, dust accumulates inside the front facing speakers just days after you take it out of the box. Its super tall, it won't fit into jeans pockets, display will recognize touch against your leg if your pocket liner is made out of thin material so forget about putting it in your suite pants pockets unless you have pin lock screen.
Let's talk about cameras: auto exposure adjustment speed in auto video mode is a joke (it's like it came off 2018 phone), there are three different video apps and all three of them produce different quality of video which is amazingly absurd. Basic mode without stabilization crop is useless as rolling shutter liquid effect kicks in right away while in Video Pro mode you can shoot video without stabilization if you opt for 25fps and there is no crop. Wide Dynamic range option for video will crush blacks and introduce more noise in shadows so it's a useless option to have UNLESS you shoot in CinemaPro in which case then it helps the image quality. How the hell are people supposed to know that? They don't, they need to do hours of testing first to find that out.
Photo Pro app has tones of "UI features" and none of them make impact in photo quality besides five of them: ISO, Shutter speed, Tap on screen to object track or adjust AF/AE, Metering and HDR Auto. That's pretty much it, all others are set it once and forget about them but they are constantly in your face trying to mimic Alpha "experience". When will you adjust the frame focus? And what is the difference between center frame focus and wide frame focus? Why would you set it to center ? Is it faster to autofocus? I don't think so as autofocus is insanely fast to begin with. Filters? ST+ filters are garbage on Alpha cams they are garbage on Xperia. It's some lazy and poor instant Instagram effect, same goes for "color profiles" in CinemaPro as those are jokes as well.
I found that crushing blacks when you take a photo is a lot less diminishing than trying to balance the histogram to capture balanced image which always comes out too bright for my liking. So histogram is useless pretty much. View finder in Photo Pro is useless as well, it has low quality preview and there is no HDR frame stacking output in real time so you don't know what you will get unless you go for it.
Side sense is great for such tall display, but it doesn't work over all apps and sometimes it will just disappear. If you opt to save your battery by charging it only up to 90% you will have a sound notification every time you plug it in to tell you that you are not using regular charging despite that being my choice. You can't mute such notification. Charging is painfully slow unless you buy Sonys 33w charger and a cable and that's another $50 on top of the $1200
Oh and dynamic vibration is a nutcase. It's an OK vibrating effect when listening to an audio through speakers but it will continue to vibrate even if you connect it to other output source such as wired heaphone, bt headphones, bt speakers, etc.

Please upgrade your 10 vi Sony, make it with decent chipset and larger the screen such 6.5" we don't need all features like 1 vi just need affordable with good long term use.

You can't conveniently say "Oh you were not supposed to compare them because Xperia has a higher resolution panel than the others" after the fact, though you definitely could've taken back what you said instead.

From your list you can conveniently throw away Honor Magic 5 pro and any iPhone right away because those are low res displays (iPhone is a tweener but still) compared to high res displays. Of course, low res display is going to burn brighter because of many reasons.
Current king in manual brightness is Pixel 8 Pro but it has only 200 more pixels than iPhone so it's a tweener with under 500dpi. X6 Pro is the illumination benchmark of QHD+ displays. S23 Ultra kicks in really well with Extra Brightness turned on. And that's pretty much it. Let's wait and see what Xiaomi and Vivo bring in this month with their 3000 displays.

Natural mode is nowhere near Creator's mode. It's not about sRGB but about color science behind it. Natural mode is super surgical, not any different than any other sRGB mode on any other phone. If you want to make your Samsung display to look somewhere in-between Vivid and Natural you can switch to AMOLED Cinema but it's a hack.
Xperia Creator mode is no plain jane sRGB mode.

In terms of manual screen brightness Xperia 1 V sits solidly behind Galaxy S23, iPhone 15 Pro, Honor Magic5 Pro, Find X6 Pro etc.. what are you even talking about?

Samsung phones literally have "Natural" mode which is supposed to be calibrated against sRGB colour space, you don't have to make up random BS to defend the brand you support🤦
