Anonymous, 28 Nov 2023Stress test is just stress test
It shows the true limit of... moreSo you have basically just repeated what ive wrote, back to me, fair enough.
Also it's not the limitation of the SoC, its more the pre determined restrictions the manufacturer of the phone sets, most companies actually soften these resteictions for stress tests and benchmarks to have "better numbers" so they can hit higher frequencies and for longer but it will eventually degrade the SoC if left at stupid values (so the SoC might clock 100mhz higher than advertised for these situations and will allow the SoC to reach slightly higher temps, the standard user wouldnt notice this, its essentially "high performance mode" activated but with less restrictions.)
Essentially rooting your device allows you to do this by overclocking/volting cpu cores/gpu etc, in reality all companies could lock the x4 core to 2ghz and be done with it but they try and find a middle ground of top end performance, phone stability and battery endurance, in reality they could set the x4 cores to 4ghz if they so wished (which tbh, anything over 3ghz is insane in devices this small and no active fan cooling etc).
Im also sure most SoCs are limited to about 40-50°c max for multiple reasons. Maybe 60°c, this is for the majority of parts in the SoC, laptop and desktop CPUs is about 100-110°c max (which would also damage the CPU over time).

Considering it's running four X4 cores and four A720 cores, not surprising. Still better than nothing tho.

[deleted post]Its too anyone who just doesnt have a basic understanding of how SoCs, cores, frequencies, variable core instruction sets, stress test programs and how companies bend the rules with stress tests to get better performance figures work.
Nothing wrong with mediatek SoCs though, i mean they use the same nodes, manufacturing processes and cores as all other SoCs and on a benchmark test if anything is within say 10% of each other then for everyday use it basically means the same performance, its more about the in baked hardware features that make the SoC bad or good usually not this (obviously putting the same tier of SoCs against each other for comparisons).

hachi07, 28 Nov 2023S23U. Xiaomi 13 series. All these ran resolutions higher th... moreAlso the s23u comes running its screen at 1080p as default, a lot of 1440p screened phones do and most if not all 1440p screen phones drop the resolution down automatically depending on power usage and content/app you're viewing/using so no, those phones arent consistently running 1440p (thats why you see very little difference between battery endurance at 1440p/1080p).
Running a screen at 2000 nits brightness or higher will have far more impact than the resolution difference of 1080p to 1440p and the screens refresh rate and how variable that is will have a bigger impact too.

hachi07, 28 Nov 2023S23U. Xiaomi 13 series. All these ran resolutions higher th... moreNot really, the point of a stress test is to push the cores to the max, constantly, which mainstream CPUs and SoCs arent meant too, my i7 4790k back in the day which had a cooler with dual 140mm fans and enough heatsink to cool anything would hit high temps when stressed test, its the point of the test.
All flagship SoCs throttle, if it reduces its core frequencies its throttling (once it hits a tpd threshold, this is why it throttles because you'll otherwise degrade the cpu/gpu cores quickly over time), this happens if its x4 cores, a720 cores, a510 cores or even a72 cores from 10 years ago.
Another really simple thing to understand is the clock frequencies that are given (so an x4 core running 3.2ghz for example) is its max frequency, NO CORE in day to day usage will be hitting its max frequency consistently, i used to see my old p40 pro running its a76 cores under 2ghz most of the time so this cpu in day to day usage will not suffer with these problems to this degree, my old pixel 6 pro constantly ran its x core over 2ghz constantly so would heat up and suffered with battery endurance.
Its a720 cores for most tasks wont be hitting probably more than about 1.8ghz generally (probably lower, for the same performance the a510 cores would need to be hitting around 2ghz or more consistently, which causes more heat, have less overall life and will see reduced battery endurance).
Aslong as vivo optimise the cores for general apps and have variable core/frequencies then it should be fine. Fyi the iphones with supposedly the best, most optimised, power sipping SoCs on the latest node will throttle VERY QUICKLY hitting anything more than 3ghz for a prolonged time.
