Dimensity 9300 in vivo X100 Pro throttles after 15 minutes in stress test

27 November 2023
As expected from a chip with four performance cores.

a geothermal power plant in your pocket! modern technology will never cease to amaze me.

SoCs are getting more and more powerful so this is very suitable for gaming phones, cheap performance laptops or handheld gaming.

99% of people are enough with SD695 or D1080. Just buy a phone with that SoC without having to worry about throttling and bad battery life.

There is no scenario where this phone CPU load at 100% even in games.

Those stress tests have always been unrealistic scenarios. Geekerwan tested the same chipset on actual games like Genshin and Honkai and it did great, better than any Andeoid chipset available.

Throttling after just 2 minutes on a phone with vapour cooling? Yikes...

Bluemarble, 27 Nov 2023Everyone is not a pro gamer. This is a photography oriented... moreHi, well, they do matter much. And if not gaming, then video recording is the next following demanding task. I recall how much Sony were concerned about overheating issues of the SoC, because when this occurs then phone would skip frames when recording - an unacceptable issue for video oriented Sony brand.

So if 9300 throttles to only 46% of perfomance, while being 36% faster than 9200, then the latter obviously makes much more sense.

Reason many brands cap how long you can record 4k

I'll hold judgement until some testing in games is done, but it doesn't bode well for sustained performance during gaming.

I wonder why they didn't post about A17 throttling

So you are telling me that if you increase the watts consumed by a SOC without modifying the cooling system, the SOC will throttle? How can this happen 😮?
This is a nice chip, for active cooled devices.

It has vapor chamber by the way

Yikes. For a 5% gain in peak performance over the 8 Gen 3 they chose to lose half the sustained performance. Mediatek sure has been trying to kill the Dimensity line lately, eh? First the rebranding nonsense, now this?
