Diegos Omam, 02 Dec 2023Have been expecting this phone's release for quite so ... moreLet's see, expandable storage, headphone jack, depth sensor, eye tracking, not being available in only ugly colors.

Just because it has a high-end processor doesn't mean it's a flagship.

They shouldn't have dropped the 135mm imager tho. Could've done an ultra variant with all the goodies.

Looks like some people here want a phone that weighs over 300 grams, and I‘m not talking about those asking for replaceable batteries which I agree on.

I wouldn't invest another 100-200.- or whatever the service + battery cost combined is, just to replace the battery in like 5 years. Not gonna happen, when there are new midrangers not costing much more...

I'd buy a cheap third party battery and just replace it, to squeeze out the last few usable years out of the device instead, and put the saved money (from not having to pay someone the replacing cost) into buying a new phone later.

Now you should get, why sealed phones are bad for the environment (and also price/performance ratio for the whole investment on consumer side).

At least, there should be some choice on the market. There could still be all-sealed variants which are 1-2mm thinner at best, for those who really prefer this over a more consumer friendly option.

So the Plus will get SD8gen3? Nice. Unfortunately the smaller S24 with smaller battery will get Exynos. That won't bode well. I guess the decision is between getting the S23 now, or get the larger S24+. Decisions decisions.

You buy phone today. In july 2026 you can simply ask battery to be replaced and keep using phone until end of 2027/early 2028.
Getting new one in late 2024 is choice, only silly ppl make, to show off.
This is 100000000000x more aggressive towards nature than non-removable battery.

Anonymous, 02 Dec 2023Samsung is never gonna make giant bump like oppo/xiaomi. ... moreDon't make a giant camera bump, just make the phone 12mm thick. The titanium-carbon fibre composite on the Xiaomi Mix 3 allows for the weight to be less as well. A 200-230g phone is completely fine to hold, and it makes no difference for people if it is at the heavy end of things if the weight distribution is very balanced, and that is easier to do with thicker phones.

I also think samsung makes it output 12MP, what would be upscale.

Older OnePlus had 8MP beyond 70mm. That was from 12MP.
                        Xperia 1ii 70mm was 20MP cropped to 12.

It happens more than you think.

I do wish the phone used a 25mm lens for the wide, a 12.5mm lens for the ultrawide, and had a fourth camera module with a 125mm lens and a 1/2.5"-type sensor. It's all small nitpicks, though I really value longer zoom ranges on phones, because they have helped me take some really good stuff.

But yeah, we can't have it all, there is no perfect phone on the market currently imo.

As for samsung and xiaomi, I like them for their feature richness. How hard could it be for others to finally implement adjustable flashlight brightness directly accessible from the control panel (samsung and even apple can do this since many years now) or the samsung sound assistant to finally mute apps with annoying sounds or autoplaying videos in some browsers for good, ffs.. (just like audio mixer in windows). Things like this should be native in android since day one, even windows 95 can control application volumes separately..

Anonymous, 02 Dec 2023Thicker = more external material = heavier = more expensive... moreThicker might be awful to put in your pocket, but most people use their phones with a case on them, and these cases make the phones at best 12mm thick, and usually thicker than that. It's no different than before, except now the phone has more space for cameras, battery and heat dissipation (as well as space for a stylus).

I find myself reading these comments with a certain amount of disillusion. Firstly the cameras on the mobile range are aimed at social media types. Xiaomi and other brands such like are aiming for that sort of market too albeit with the backing of companies like Leica, Sony or Hasselblad.

A bit more prestige and cheaper to buy although some software disadvantages. Dual-layered image sensors are pretty much the future so stacked sensors will improve the light capture performance on a smaller scale

Chipset wise they are mostly equal so only the other components like the screen, software and AI will set them apart. Also filing systems and built-in security protocols will also improve.

The s24 still offers nothing that makes me nothing to me make me rush out and buy one. At least at the moment. Buying a phone these days is like buying a laptop.
