If only we could see more phones like this from other mainstream brands. I know lots of people who want removable batteries coming back on smartphones.

Anonymous, 09 Dec 2023you cant repair a better performing chip on it or add more ... moreIt is not about getting a thousend updates in 8 years, it is about using a device without problems for 8 years and having security updates accros the lifespan.
Fairphone works on their software and do a good job, they never release a android version that is just garbage on the phone. Fairphone 4 is a good example, fairphone skipped android 12 because it was not properly supported on the CPU it has, and they made their own cpu driver for android 13, now fairphone 4 runs android 13. This is called commitment. Apple and all chinese gang would prety much never update their garbage devices and let them rot in your hands forcing you to buy new ones, if you can't see the obvious Elephant in the room, well you presence here is useless.

Glenico353, 09 Dec 2023So you're allowed to hate on a device that's not ... more"The Fairphone 5 is not for you; it may be for somebody who wants a smartphone with great repairability and does not care about the performance that it gives. It's worth it for someone but not for you."

Well I want such a phone and it's still not for me. They just assume we're gonna buy anything as long as it has great repairability. I might have considered it if it at least had 3.5mm jack. But lack of it is extremely hypocritical. "But our phone if you care about the environment. Oh BTW you must also buy this additional device if you want to use environmental-friendly headphones". Bigger battery and usable speakers are also not a "premium" feature so i think they are a must when you're trying to impress the practical, tech-savvy crowd.

Glenico353, 09 Dec 2023So you're allowed to hate on a device that's not ... moreI don't hate this phone, but It's really not worth that price.
Having high repairability is not a great advantage, because you will need this repairability only If you damaged your device or It is so old that something failed.
But in that case, If you chose a comparable phone for 1/2 of that Fairphone's price, you can buy a completely new smartphone after 3 years, which will have better specs and be once more under warranty.

If someone wants to buy this phone then just buy It, It's not my money, but don't say It was worth the money, because It was not.

Comparable SoC is in POCO X5 Pro 5G 8 GB/256 GB for €289 including TAX, this costs €699.

Why should I pay €410 more for this Fairphone when after 3-4 years I can buy a new one?
Because It has high repairability? Long support? This is basically useless when I can buy a new one after 3-4 years.
Because the workers are fairly paid? Are they really?

                          From wiki:
"Since version two, the Fairphone is produced in Suzhou, China, by Hi-P International Limited."
So who is making It? A Chinese worker.
The other version I read somewhere is that It's assembled in Hungary. Do you think the Hungarian worker is paid that well? Not really. There is a reason why they don't make It in the Netherlands, despite the company being from there.

Then let's not forget that this is just the assembly, the components are made where? Another cheap labour country.
There is really nor reason why this phone should cost that much, assembly is truly not costly even in Europe to warrant that much higher cost.

So is there a reason why I should buy this over any other phone?

"Phones with no rating but still with the seals and a glass back will 100% fare better than this."

I had phone with no IP rating but with non removable battery so sealed and had glass back. It accidentally fall in tub with around 1 foot water level. Took it out within 1-2 seconds. Display and chip for charging port completely damaged.
So FYI phones without rating but sealed are equivalent to phones with removable back cover. Making battery non-removable doesn't add any benefit.

justasmile, 09 Dec 2023It's unsurprising for this shitty device. So you're allowed to hate on a device that's not a Nothing phone and call everyone a hater when they don't like a Nothing phone?

Complaining like this while providing nothing to improve/give a possible solution to a device is worthless, unnecessary hate. The Fairphone 5 is not for you; it may be for somebody who wants a smartphone with great repairability and does not care about the performance that it gives. It's worth it for someone but not for you.

This is also for the people that complain like you.
