Trying to cover the sun with one finger! Instead of coming with 20x they downgrade it to 5x, removing the only attraction that differentiated this phone from the rest!!! Ah but wait for the 10x in the s25 series and an increase of 150 dollars hehehehe! They want to follow Apple's strategy of giving things little by little....

Reducing the optical zoom is not "progress", it's just pure ecomonics.
The news is actually a half-lie: they replaced the 10x optical zoom with an improved software, which COULD give better results, but an improved software applied to the 10x optical zoom would have been even better!
Double talk at its best.

Why 10 MP 3 x ?
Why they just can't update 50 MP for all lenses except main 200 MP.
so 50 MP ultra wide, 200 main, 50 MP 3 x and 50 MP 10 x.
It can cover 06 x, 1 x, 2 x, 3 x, 5 x, 6 x, 10 x, 15 x and 20 x with absolute killer clarity and
more than okayish clarity between 7-9 x and 20 x onwards.

According to rumors, the periscope camera of the S23 Ultra will be very similar to the periscope camera of the Pixel 7 Pro. I compared the periscope camera of my Pixel 7 Pro at 360mm + short Night Sight mode with the S23 Ultra in a store multiple times and the 7 Pro was definitely slightly better regarding distant objects.
If the S23 Ultra has a 50 megapixel 115mm camera, then it will have 12.5 megapixels at 230mm, whereas it had only 10 megapixels at 230mm previously. The main disadvantage is the different color filter array, but due to diffraction, the difference could be neglectable.

Love me some square phones, reminds me of those colorful Nokia Lumias! Glad to see the form factor surviving in the age of rounded corners.
