14 January 2024
The gaming phone has been reformed to be better for casual users. It's still a powerful gaming phone and now has features like an LTPO display.

Narazumono, 14 Jan 2024Why the hell would you want bezels lmaoNot everyone here wants speaker beside usb port, worst place possible.

You would also use it for anything else you would use your phone for and there is where the bezels come in as annoying or dated, whatever you wanna call it. But whatever, the only in-between would've been thinner bezels, which apparently wasn't possible, since they switched to a punchole. Or if we were still in 2018, a pop-up selfie cam, therefore giving no reason for a thick bezel to be present.

I'd consider this as an upgrade for my Oneplus 10 Pro. I like how it looks. If the price is right, then I'll get it.

I could as easily say that thick bezels annoy/distract me more than just a small punchole, which would literally be covered by your hand most of thee time your gaming anyways.

If I was Asus, to attract attention from casuals while remaining true to their core audience, I would do this:

              1) Do not make the phone thinner, keep it at 10.6mm. This allows for more space inside the phone and allows it to keep the 6000mAh battery.

              2) Make the rear cameras work just like their Asus Zenfone 8 Flip, which can flip its rear camera module around to also act as a selfie camera. This is unique enough to attract attention while not having to have a selfie cutout. It's also technically a better solution than under-display cameras, which are still not good enough to be mainstream. Unlike the ZTE nubia Red Magic 9, what Asus seems to be going for is to turn their Asus ROG Phone 8 into a more mainstream phone while also keeping it as a gaming-centric one, likely because they are going to kill of their Zenfone line, so under-display cameras just wouldn't be a good solution.

              3) Keep the speaker setup of the Asus ROG Phone 7, as it is fantastic. It's practically an insult for them to downgrade this, and the more casual users that they seem to want to attract would probably have loved and appreciated the speakers just as much as the core audience did.

              4) Do not have a different version for SEA markets. These kinds of artificial differences just confuse the customer and doesn't benefit anyone, as people are less likely to buy a product that confuses them, especially the more casual audiences they seem to be trying to target. Their core audience is very likely to reject the new phone as well because they can understand what the problem is, which is not the kind of problem that enthusiasts tend to tolerate.

              5) Do not use a glass back. The problem with glass backs is that they are very easy to break or scratch, and for a gaming phone that has accessory mounts, scratching it is a very easy thing to do. They should've either stayed with plastic or used something more exotic.

Only a 1080p display on a phone costing €1,100?? Hahaha. At this point, might as well just an iPhone 15 Pro Max

How is there not a simple "No" option

GAMIR3DH, 14 Jan 2024No screen interruptions. Or instead if they wanted small be... moreThey keep the bezels, someone'll complain, they'll use the punchole, someone'll complain; they use the UDC, someone'll complain. They don't use UDC since they probably know the tradeoffs it comes with. And let's be honest here, a small punchole won't hurt or affect your gaming performance or attention span during prolonged gaming sessions. I guarantee you that. If you can't focus on your game cause of the punchole, then I'm sorry, but you simply can't focus well enough and ignore a small, simple dot, which isn't even in the middle of the screen. Anyways, they've just switched from the bezels to the punchole. For an UDC, you'll probably have to wait a few ROG generations to pass before you'll see that happen...or maybe not.

A hella expensive thing. But it's a very good all-rounder. Let's just hope that asus will provide the bootloader unlocking thing again :/
