Huawei says about 5,000 native HarmonyOS apps coming this year

I'm not defending the bad record of Western governments in anyway, just check what they did to Edward Snowden after he exposed the US government's mass surveillance programs only a few years ago...     The first phones who are getting the beta are also kirin only, so this says a lot about how Huawei is using its own hardware to work well with their software too, pretty exciting to see it soon in action

          Anonymous, 19 Jan 20245000 native apps mean nothing unless you the well known bra... moreIt definitely can't be another windows phone, harmony has millions of users in china and are only rising ( may take down IOS as china's 2nd os in 2024), it's on the rise with Huawei solving many supply issues and bringing back kirin soc and 5g to their home market.
          It has a very solid base and will only grow forward from there, for now they showed 200 native apps and they contained the most famous and used chinese app, and few missing are believed to be coming soon, they have genshin and pung developers as their partner for example.
          Huawei is already selling cars there with harmony os and many loT devices, harmony NEXT can hit the ground really hard in china. Starting from 2024
          Then global will be their next focus (2025 and beyond)

            Hopefully one of these 5000 apps will be Minecraft (just saying). I will be proud of Huawei.

              USA will never give a chance to HarmonyOS outside china. They will never let a country they cannot control dominate them.

Who would've thought that they will surpass Tesla in 2024. And also become a supplier on certain parts for Tesla cars. I hope the Chinese don't forget the sanctions and negativity against them. I really hate people who love this ugly duoploy we have right now.

In it you can browse Facebook, youtube, and Gmail. Huawei's native email client also supports gmail. And it is better if you check out why some like facebook are restricted, not banned, in China because automoderation will never let me post the explanation.

They weren't banned because they're western. In fact, foreigners can use them with vpn and no one will drag them to prison.

                          To be honest: Most people don't install more than a few dozen apps from the appstore.
                          So, the appstore having billions of apps is just masking the fact that 99.9999% of these apps are of literally no or little use, badly coded, or even outright malicious.

                          So, it's a good thing when smartphone makers focus on making or providing a select few great apps that will meet all the needs of their customers, be excellently designed, efficiently coded, and have no security holes.

Just look at their history. I don't think the other OSs will stand a chance, because they have a massive and a high quality of cheap labour in China. They're already controlling the hardware, it's a matter of time before they take over the software domain, just give them 5 years from now!

                                The quality of your app is far more important than the number of apps you have.

                                Imagine a phone with no Facebook, no Instagram, no Chrome browser, no email, no YouTube, and no WhatsApp.

                                In fact, Huawei would never develop these apps because they are not supported in China.

                                    Although that seems to show a healthy growing platform, what matters are not the number of apps, but the apps that people want. This is a non issue in China as they don't have GMS to begin with, but internationally, imo it would be a challenge to entice developers from each market Huawei phones are available to also publish their apps for HarmonyOS.

                                    I do wish Huawei the best though, so they can be the 3rd player in the duopoly of smartphone platform.
