That was a real stab on htc, apple, sony ericsson, samsung, LG and so on!!! This phone is a serious threat!!! And this is just the first one!

Why does everyone think that this phone is meant to compete with the likes of iPhone or G1??? Nokia is not a one flavor cellphone maker, like Apple who has various MP3 players for different customers(Shuffle, Nano, Classic, and Touch); Nokia makes various Cellphones, Smartphones(Classic, XpressMusic, E-series, and N-series) to fit multiple customers needs. This phone is not Nokia's response to the iPhone or G1 or any other Touch based phone, this is Nokia's first stab at the Music Market which Apple dominates(in the U.S. for the most part; thus it's under Nokia's XpressMusic line up and not their Stronger N-Series Smartphones).
The price announced is killer for one very cool reason... It includes a one year subscription to Nokia Music, which Nokia will launch in the U.S. first quarter 2009. With that subscription, you have unlimited song downloads that are DRM locked to your phone and PC, but yours to keep forever without giving them back like other services ask you to do. After that there is a la carte option subscription, which by my guess will be very competitive to other music services. And if that wasn't enough, everyone should read the specs that the new S60 5th edition OS has to offer(which had been under developing long before the touch crazed hit the U.S.). It not only offers improved copy and paste functionality(over the existing system on all S60 devices), but FULL Web Browser(with Flash Video support, which was already present in S60 3rd Edition FP2 devices) on a new High Resolution(640x360) 16:9 aspect Screen to name a few.
And with all this said, this phone is still under Nokia's mid-range line up; which in the end makes you wonder just how much you're paying for an iPhone or G1 that claim to be High-End?

U r one of de peolpe who r brainwashed about Apple n its products. Earlier this year a crash test was taken upon de 3 major OS' s, de lesser-known opensource Linux, de "vulnerable crashing" Windows n de much anticipated Mac (that is hailed as de KING of all OS's) where a hacker was given three days 2 hack them and 2 many people's suprise, de Mac running on its latest and strongest OS(Leopard) was de first 2 crash on day one, then followed Windows running its latest Vista (though very late on the 2nd day) and the 'King' of the unknown Empire, Linux running its humble Ubuntu(Africa's Nguni for humanity) was still running smoothly on the 3rd day through. What can u say about that? I would rather live in an open (source) continent than live in a closed iSland (hence iMac, iPhone, iPod, iTunes... no pun intended) of Apple with their icrap concept. Tired of these people saying Apple is beautiful blah blah blah. I'm not personally against Apple but just hate living in an enclosure n I might buy an iproduct as well, no hard feelings.

Iphone is iphone no matter what you say ... its apple ... but Iam glad nokia finally came up with this option which should be cheaper then apple iphone .... after all the whole idea and design is taken from apple !!!! ... lol ........but this is really good news .....

I'm personally a Motorola fan (& a bit for Nokia and SE) so iPhone & Apple fans r de 'end-users' coz they can't customise a phone or a PC nevermind writting a programme on them. I can't write programmes but I customised my PC (and my Nokia 6234) and the illiterate ipeople won't even know what OS I'm running on it and I even downloaded Linux which runs side by side with my Windows XP SP3. S60 is just as customisable and modable as Motorola phones that's why a lot of people hate Motorola. BTW I'll give the 5800XM a try when it comes 2 South Africa. Keep posting homie!

Telstra better be smart for once and choose a nice phone like this for Australia. Its choice for mobile phone release over the past year as been shockingly disappointing.

Definetly this is a must ve! Moreover it is a smartphone runing on symbian s60 fifth edition better.It ll be good to see n70 to n96 being transformed into full touch best devices.Well done nokia.
