It is not because of market dominance that Nvidia has technologies implemented even in indie games, Nvidia has always had the approach of lending a hand (engineers) even to small studios, AMD only started doing this recently but apparently only with large or medium studios;

Until a few years ago, AMD was on the verge of bankruptcy, and if I'm not mistaken, it is still paying off the billion-dollar loan it used to develop Zen. So it makes sense, the strict management of resources.

Turned off basically. And in a world where nvidia is the main choice for pc builder, dev wouldn’t be trying to implement it. Take new game that rose to the top, palworld. It has dlss but no fsr even tho fsr can be use by almost any card in the market. This is the state of Rdna 3 currently is in. Even though fsr can be use by any card, it mostly no in every game. Big company or big title usually come with at release. Amd need to work with dev for Rdna 7900xtx to become true rdna 3. If not it just rdna2 with mcm only.

          Let's wait for the phone to actually be released before doing the comparisons. I'm happy to be getting the S24 Ultra with the Snapdragon Gen 3 regardless.

            I have a gaming console so, smartphone has never been a gaming device for me. smartphone is a business and multimedia device for me. what concerns me is photo quality, heating and battery life differences.

              Week, 21 Jan 2024Like i said, navi 33 has the worse improvement among rdna3.... moreThe main advantage of RDNA3 is the ability to dual-issue FP32 in 1 cycle. But this requires extra optimization work on the software side, Starfield is one of the games that contains such an implementation.

              "The takeaway is that compilers really aren’t that smart. Compiler work is split into passes that perform specific tasks, like register allocation and final instruction generation. A human coding in assembly can see a bigger picture, and assign registers to create dual issue opportunities. Like higher end RDNA 3 cards, the RX 7600 will be subject to the compiler register allocation dice roll. And, it could benefit from “game-ready” drivers that replace game shaders with hand-optimized versions." - chipsandcheese review

                  beyond the speculations and problems of dissipation, number of cores and benchmark scores, I will be interested to know how this CPU-GPU solution will behave with the compatibility of emulators on the Android platform.

                  It is known that until now, only Adreno GPUs have a good reputation with their drivers, partly thanks to the Vulkan Mesa-Turnip API.

                  So, the fundamental question remains;

                  - will this new SOC be able to run emulators, provided good driver support?

                  Or in practice will we find ourselves with the usual smoke and mirrors?

RDN... moreLike i said, navi 33 has the worse improvement among rdna3. 50% were refering to probably navi31. Yes it has power increase from 335w to 355. That 256bit vs 384bit bus. 80cu vs 96cu. Monolithic vs MCM. Not just 2 die, but 7die+1interposer. Like it or not, MCM will have higher power consumption. I actually don’t know if the gcd stored data is cross talked or not. Normally you would think that right side of cu would store data on the right side. But in MCM design, when data fully covered 16mb of a single mcd, it might need to access the next one with cross talking and pull which data is needed. I haven’t gone and read if the 96mb of IC is considered as one or a 16mb partition for certain amount of cu each. But in a case where it is considered as one. The top right side of cu in gcd could be storing data in the bottom left side mcd. The amount of power needed to move data far away cost way higher than the one beside it. Also it has to go through the interposer, not just gcd to mcd but instead gcd>interposer>mcd and when data were recalled, it goes in the reverse. This is the drawback of mcm design. The 50% claimed by amd probably lost in the mcm design. Its not like the 50% claim is just a lie but instead it were use to implement the mcm design. At only 20w higher power than its predecessor 335w 6950xt.

                          Week, 21 Jan 2024You’re comparing 6nm 7600/xt to 7nm part. Did you even know... moreStill, RDNA2 isn't just RDNA1 with Infinity Cache. RDNA2 has lots of microarchitectural efficiency improvements, and this is a much larger factor for its efficiency improvements than the change from TSMC's N7P to N7+. RDNA3 quite frankly doesn't do much of these kinds of improvements, and thus doesn't come anywhere close to the 50% efficiency improvement that AMD has had with moving from Vega II (Radeon VII) to RDNA1 and RDNA1 to RDNA2. I applaud AMD for trying MCM with GPUs, but so far RDNA3 seems lackluster and even AMD has acknowledged this by trying to basically rush RDNA3 out the window so that they can release RDNA4.

                          If you don't believe me, read Chips and Cheese's article on RDNA2.

Did you even know that rdna2 is basically rdna1 with infinity cache? Rdna 3 improvement on navi 33 is very minor, it was just a refresh with additional compute unit the dual cu design which in most cases were turned off. Rdna 3 design heavily focusing on dual cu. The dual cu that were either turned off or required dev to implement in game engine. My guess is turned off. Rdna 4 were more focused on rt in which case if amd were to enable it in rdna4. There would be much better in perception. Also the improvement on navi 33 from navi 23 were negated to smaller die size. 7nm to 6nm is about 18% improvement in density. 237mm navi 23 to 204mm navi 33 and you add in the dual cu space required. Amd made a move for smaller die size. Hence no perf/watt improvement. If it were to be keep at same die size for lower power it would be a slightly efficient card. Or same size and power but more performance. You can choose either one not all. And as i say before. The dual cu thing are probably turned off. Hence the similar perf for the card but at a lower die size.

                              I frankly don't care about gaming and the games I do play run on any phone anyway. What I do care is how long it can run on single charge doing low load daily stuff. Exynos 2200 wasn't even that bad, but it had measurably worse performance at exactly that.

Hell, power draw seems to almost line up linearly with increases in performance (+10W ≈ +10% performance), which has never been possible on any architecture. If an architecture relies this much on power increases to get tangible performance increases, then it's just not going to be power efficient enough.

In the end it a proven concept.
