      The buyers should be the one deciding that not a bunch of Beaureaucrats. Absolutely appealing how these guys in here are cheering on it.


      Not surprised given the amount of populist hate the internet has for apple especially the Android and pc fanboys. (Btw i am a pc user myself)


      Like they are the only company following this business model of creating your own hardware, software and services , why would you want it to become like everyone else, they have their own business models.
      Let the buyers decide what they want - open or closed system.

      Asking apple not to take any money from people trying to sell items from their platform is like a department store owner not to earn any money in return of selling manufacturers products.

        Feels wrong because they didn't just say "f**k it", lets open it up for everyone. No, they are just appeasing EU because we forced them to. It's great, but it just feels like everyone else using iPhone is robbed of the choice and options.

Windows uses them as core components for tasks other than just browsing the web. What you can do is disable them for that purpose. Android goes beyond this, the disable is actually a kill-switch that will do everything an uninstall would do (minus altering the stock image, because that would be a serious pain).

            Although the EU is hopelessly corrupt, it actually managed to do something good.

            I have an Android phone and an iPad Pro, and while the iPad is a really nice device, the restrictions on apps is annoying. I tried to find a Tachiyomi alternative to read manga, and the only decent app I could find was distributed is a weird way - through the TestFlight app which is meant for beta tests and it allows a very limited release that bypasses typical App Store restrictions. But that only works for a small number of users and needs to be renewed frequently, so it's really annoying.

            Allowing alternative app stores fixes that problem. If someone prefers to stay inside the Apple walled garden, they can simply not install any other app store.

                    Windows users can install other browsers as well, but the EU still found Microsoft to be anticompetitive by pre-installing IE with Windows, to the point that Microsoft was forced by the EU to allow IE to be uninstalled in Windows. Google is literally doing the same, forcing Chrome to be pre-installed if OEMs wanted to have their devices certified, and it cannot be uninstalled through normal means (along with their other bloatware). Yet they got a free pass despite Android marketshare on mobile.

You have been able to sideload any app you want on iOS for forever without a jailbreak. Hell, every jailbreak since iOS 10 has required you to sideload an app to jailbreak..
                            I moved to iOS full time as a daily driver around iOS 9 days because the iOS third party app strores were so much better than anything Android had to offer and it still holds true to this day. There is literally a thriving multi million dollar industry around iOS third party app stores lmao

It's called disabling instead of uninstalling because that application is built into the stock image (so no extra user space is taken) and the stock image is immutable to simplify verification and updates -- for all intents and purposes, Google Chrome is "uninstalled" when you click disable. You are manufacturing a problem that does not exist.
