There are ton of warnings about installing an apk from unknown source is a risk. Didn't they thought about checking a tracking number should not involve installing any risky applications on your phone? How can they be so dumb?

I switch to iphone because it doesn't allow sideload because there are a lot of scam happened in my country where people were sent apk file imposing as tracking number of package and invitation that a lot of people install without knowing (people say the scammer called them and hypnotized them) and stole all their money from the banking app.

potato4k, 31 Jan 2024No it's not. Say you're Walmart (Apple). You h... moreAlso, Epic store is not the only 3rd party app store, you can make bad narrative about Epic store (from china etc.).

In fact, there are more app stores from the U.S. like microsoft store, Play store, Steam, etc.

Apple already got most its profit from iPhone, just like Samsung. If Samsung can give 7 years of OS updates and still let its user prefer its own 3rd party App store, why not with Apple?

potato4k, 31 Jan 2024No it's not. Say you're Walmart (Apple). You h... moreYou made wrong example and too overcomplicated.

The former example made by that person was correct.

Imagine as an Uber driver, and being charged by Tesla/Honda for every Uber ride he makes, despite the fact that the Uber driver had already paid full price (a.k.a. owning) for his own Tesla/Honda car.

The driver owns his car, and he has every right to do whatever he want for his Tesla/Honda.

It would be different case, if Apple stops selling iPhone and only renting it to its user. The iPhone still belongs to Apple by law, and Apple has right to make its own rules for 3rd party App store, because the iphone user is not the owner by law.

Apple doesn't own the iphone that a customer paid money for. The customer does. And the customer should have an option of buying colgate, whether from walmart or from the grocer around the block.

potato4k, 31 Jan 2024No it's not. Say you're Walmart (Apple). You h... moreWhat? That's not how it works. Colgate does not have a shop inside Walmart. Walmart buys Colgate's toothpaste at distributor/manufacturer price and sells it at retail price for a profit.

The App store is not a retail store. It is an App distribution service. The App is purchased through the App store, the owner of the App gets paid and Apple gets a cut. The sticking point is why there are there no alternative stores apart from the Appstore for app distribution on iOS and how much of a cut Apple should be getting for providing their app distribution service and whether they should get a cut for microtransactions within the app.

JLC, 30 Jan 2024No, it is not! It is more like this: Tesla asks Uber for a... moreNo it's not.

Say you're Walmart (Apple). You have your store building (iPhone) with shelves (app store). Colgate (Epic) wants to sell their stuff on Walmart shelves. Customers will have to purchase it through Walmart's cash register, and Colgate will have a deal with Walmart in percentages of the revenue. Colgate cannot just set up their own register for customers inside Walmart's store, bypassing Walmart completely.

So what Epic and the rest wanted make no sense.

Considering that Epic is basically a front for the Chinese (Tencent), this is just an attempt to put a hole on Apple ecosystem for the Chinese to push their software hoping to bypass Apple's scrutiny. The fact that there are people supporting this without thinking who's behind Epic is frightening.

Go make your own app ecosystem. How about that?

This is why I am not getting anything from Apple ever again. Time to go full android all over again.
