I can understand the brand gatekeeping, but I also like to think that both Google and Samsung are still trying to perfect the feature. After all, several Google AI features like Video Boost are still relying on the cloud servers.

If Samsung was that capable of influencing the development of Android more than Google itself did, then Samsung would have succeeded in its own Tizen.

Lol Just shows you what Google and Samsung thinks of tier 3 Chinese android vendors. What a joke. China really needs to make their own OS and not depend on Android anymore.

You can be sure that as it has been the case with most relevant Android features, the idea and the actual implementation for “Circle to search” came from Samsung. Samsung could have done this completely alone with Bixby Vision (before anyone says it is not good: it does a decent and it getting better day by day). Google probably had to guarantee this to convince Samsung not to do it on their own, and use Google's superior search engine instead.

Not to worry honestly, I am just waiting for this feature till the end of October 2024. Time flies quickly. Beside that, I do appreciate GoogleXSamsung. And there may be GoogleXOppo, etc... and do not forget we've got GoogleLens with the same function.
I just hope these all are free for life.

Either directly, by contributing to source code, or indirectly, by creating features which were then copied../integrated directly into the OS, Samsung influenced the development of Android more than Google itself did. Not to talk about their sales numbers - the popularity of this OS is due to Samsung picking it up in its early days (well before Chinese manufacturers). Samsung is the powerhouse of Android.
So yeah, whom would you want to anger: Samsung or "other Android manufacturers"? You need to pick your fights../partners.

Ain’t big deal as you can still crop and image search, I don’t get this hype over these AI features, translate still isn’t accurate and lvoice translation is even worse.

The Android OS get bad images mostly from the bad software support, and bad security of chinese phones.
Since the chinese phone user love china so much, they must use Harmony OS only for the rest of their life.

Google benefits from designing Android's user interface and apps in such a way that it benefits their finances over what benefits the user. An example of this is how the AOSP core apps have virtually become unmaintained after Google created services that more or less filled the same purpose as them, except with some form of monetisation built-in.
