I only care if it achieved MIL-STD 810G Drop Proof, if it is not aluminum.

LG G flex self healing back

Anonymous, 12 Feb 2024Plastic makes a phone feel cheap. I like it because it makes the phone lightweight. It's cheap to replace and so on. Without an aluminum frame, you get that flex. But for cover material... not bad. The flex in plastic would probably make it less damage prone when dropped etc.

PhilXNOR, 12 Feb 2024Titanium is not technically a 'precious metal' - ... moreOk you're right. "Exotic metal" then. (in the context of phones)

Aluminum requires more material to provide similar stiffness but the density is comparable to titanium. Aluminum corrodes so if you want the phone to last decades it's not ideal.

The fact that aluminum can rival titanium apart from corrosion resistance, is quite impressive, while doing it at a much lower cost, is kind of a big win.

Stainless requires a lot less material but you usually end up with a heavier frame for similar properties.

Aluminum, plastic, glass crack. Steel bends. I don't know if that's relevant.

The frame material is only for the phone beautifier.

All phones are not guaranteed fine if falling down, this is purely depend on our luck. Even all phone brands cannot guarantee it no matter what the material is.

            Titanium 100%
We went from plastic to aluminum, now the next step is titanium
Now that flagships are moving to titanium, i hope to see mid rangers move to aluminum like Samsung's original A series pre 2019

I'd rather see them go back to just a PLASTIC case for one thing. I don't need all of this super strength nonsense because I don't treat my phone like trash. Never used a screen protector, never destroyed one. But, I'm also one of those that doesn't carry their phone in their hands 24/7, or in their back pocket. It stays on a belt clip case when not in use.

I really don't care about the material as long as it doesn't break or bend if it's dropped from 1-2 meters . I would actually want the material to be coated with rubber, at least on the corners, so I don't have to use a silly case .
Since the phones are so expensive , why not carbon fiber ?

I would love to have an phone made of wood, powered by an Exynos. When I get tired of it, I could simply open Instagram so the phone would get hot enough to turn into a bonfire.

Lenovo also use it a lot on ThinkPad’s. Definitely think more phones should use it. It has a very interesting material feel as well.

Titanium is not a metal to waste on a phone. I believe the producers are not even considering the recycling of titanium from phones. It just increases the cost with no benefits. If one needs a titanium phone to survive the normal usage, then perhaps one doesn't know how to use and handle a phone. Alloyed aluminum is just fine, enough resistance and good thermal conduction. Better increase the device life by making it safe to use even after 4-5 years.
