Anonymous, 16 Feb 2024You can easily install and use opera browser on iphone ✅Every browser installed on iOS is just skinning of safari browser as only WebKit is allowed to run. So your opinion is wrong.

Apple's tactics in 2020 would never fly in the year 1990.
This is just the pendulum swinging back the other way. These "old white men" that people are complaining about are absolutely not idiotic, they can't be to be where they are. This is the EU realising that these Technology Corporations actually possess a lot of power and influence. Documents from the USA Senate even disclosed that elections could be bought by these companies influencing the people's behaviour and voting decisions. And the fact is that most of these International Corporations are based out of USA, and they have their own interests, of which these values do not align with the Europeans. That is why these changes are coming. It's not about the money, it is about control. They want to open these platforms to competition, so there isn't just monopolies in each ecosystem. The EU can only do that for itself, it can't influence how they behave outside it's territories. So we can get USB-C iPhones for the EU-only and the USA models with Lightning-Port. And Apple actually DID do this, but they reversed their decision, since they realised how much negative press that was going to bring them. But they are being cunning and looking for ways around the EU and their laws.

So they might keep every iPhone locked heavily to Apple and it's ecosystem, BUT, having only the EU Models get access to third-party Browsers and sideloading Apps. Eventually this might spill into other markets like Australia, New Zealand, Israel, Japan, Korea, etc etc. But that still leaves alot of other (albeit smaller) markets vulnerable to being locked down, like Pakistan, South Africa, Brasil, etc etc. Eventually Apple will cave under enough pressure, and it is us the consumers that need to look after our own interests. That means sometimes we need to side with the authorities and sometimes we need to side with the corporations. We need to adapt to the changing market, it is the consumers who pay, and it is our control that is up for debate. Always put others first and yourself, don't follow blindly to companies or systems, that leads to bad things if you know your history!

An iPhone can cost easily 1000€ and more. So, you buy an iPhone, an Apple Watch, an iPad, and a MacBook and more. This is a lot of investment. You can’t just change to another eco system. Even the iPhone alone is a lot of investment for many people. People don’t have the money to spend each year a grand for a new phone! Now Apple simply disable features and you say this is ok? The EU lawmakers have the duty to protect their citizens from such practices.

I hate pre-installed bloatware, but it's even worse when they cannot be uninstalled, and that's the way it is here and in most other scenarios in general. At least for a browser I understand one being pre-installed, and maybe even the uninstallation process taking more than three taps, but not allowing me to uninstall Chrome *AT ALL* is actively disgusting and anti-consumer.

Lb7500, 16 Feb 2024Your wrong. Apple must be forced to spin off hardware from ... moreSpin off in what way? As in like actively develop the drivers of its silicon for Android and allow people to easily flash Android on their iPhone? That's the only way that makes sense to me, though you probably mean something else. If that is what you mean, I'd love seeing that happen but it would also mean that Android phones would be forced to allow easy bootloader unlocks and easy relocks and completely get rid of APIs that punish people that root, like the ones banking apps use. We both now that in reality, neither of these things are ever going to be forced to happen, because the people in charge of making these rules know nothing about rooting or flashing custom ROMs or the like.
