21 February 2024
Apple used a specific charging test which involved charging and discharging the battery 1,000 times under specific conditions that would simulate real-world use cases.

My iPhone 15 Pro Max gets over two days battery life with moderate usage, which is pretty good.
Which means less charge cycles. It's very power efficient. I wish the Pixel Pro's had the same.

IPhone batteries are way behind in tech, longevity and charging speed. Chinese phones are way way ahead, and guarantee at least 80 percent after a thousand cycles or even more than that. Apple failed

In fact they haven't mentioned anything about this until now, and even then in quite an understated way.

It's simply an improvement in iPhone battery longevity.

Lumo820, 21 Feb 2024While my girlfriend iphone 14 pro takes ages to charge ( ne... moreI think fast charge is not such a popular feature but, nice to have for emergencies. 99% of phones are charged overnight and it gives enough time to charge. if the phone lasts the whole day with no battery anxiety, there is no need to charge it quickly during the day time. if there is an emergency to fast charge during the day, the compatible charging brick must be around you to charge that fast. most probably, you end up borrowing a random charger from a friend or use a laptop charger during the day time.

Anonymous, 21 Feb 2024So you switched from an iPhone to cheap phones every year? ... moreCheap phones are 100-150€, not 300€ one. I usually get some midrange phones like Poco x6 pro, Poco F4, Samsung a34 etc. I had many times flagships and they are not worth more than 500€.

DaFink, 21 Feb 2024Good for Oppo users i guess, what's your point?Their point is that Apple is very behind in battery technology and innovation, compared to many other manufacturers. While this is good news, it's incredibly late in comparison to the rest of the market.

Btw I use android too. From old android phone I use its battery just can’t keep up. Battery degraded over a time to unusable. No matter how optimise the software, battery still degrading over a time. iOS, android. It’s just a phone with different software running it, from between fanboys for both keep arguing seems no point at all.

This is because of the EcoDesign regulation of the EU that requires that kind of longevity. It takes effect next year as Apple keeps selling older iPhones so they need to comply with it now.
EU brings more meaningful improvements to iPhones than Apple lol

EU Regs. Cut & Pasted and the REASONING behind it

'The battery regulation that the European Parliament endorsed during this period has its own significance in addition to the synergy between the two legislative approaches. This is due to the fact that the battery regulation takes a more stringent stance compared to the ecodesign regulation in a crucial aspect: it doesn't provide an exemption that would allow smartphone manufacturers to sidestep the requirement for easily replaceable batteries if they manage to produce batteries with prolonged lifespans. Specifically, batteries must maintain at least 83% of their capacity after 500 charging cycles and 80% after 1,000 cycles to meet the criteria. Moreover, these devices must be engineered to be dust-tight and protected against immersion in water up to one-meter deep for a minimum of 30 minutes, in accordance with the ecodesign rules, capabilities often achieved through adhesive techniques.

Yada yada yada battery technology is constantly being developed, technologies adopted and adapted to maximise performance. That debate will go on with people citing The Good and the Bad....
