Weekly poll: what do you think about the Xiaomi 14 Ultra?

25 February 2024
The quad 50MP cameras with Leica lenses bring notable improvements over last year's Ultra, but perfection doesn't come cheap.

Apple, pixels and galaxy phones are the kings of this, its literally why the market has stagnated since 2017. Slightly higher brightness increases of their 8 bit screens (pixel might be 10 bit), new chip, barely upgraded cameras/ same sensor new lens that weren't the best to begin with, dont update charging, dont offer any new useful hardware features like 360°c nfc as an example like my find x5 has and being able to hide notifications/drop down messaging when not looking at the screen/if someone else looks like my find x5, s24u and 15pm are what, £1200+ devices?

Non of the flagships should cost more than 700€. Nothing innovative.

Xiaomi could be nice, but color science is similiar to samsung, ugly.

It's just not enough of an upgrade to be justifiable. If I'm supposed to believe that this is the camera king of smartphones, then how come Oppo gets better results with the Oppo Find X7 Ultra and does it with both better software and better hardware (larger sensors on the ultrawide *and* 3× periscope telephoto, has dual periscopes)? The Oppo Find X7 Ultra actually has meaningful improvements over the Oppo Find X6 Pro, with only the ultrawide being worse due to a smaller sensor and narrower lens than before, and that was so that they could house dual periscopes. The Xiaomi 14 Ultra is just a refinement of the Xiaomi 13 Ultra, rather than being a proper improvement over it.

The 13 Ultra has a Sony IMX 989 while the 14 Ultra uses the Sony LYT-900. It also uses a Silicon Carbon Battery instead of Lithium Polymer, All Cameras have better aperture, Has a 4k60 Selfie Camera, Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, 80W Wireless Charging, Quadmicrophone(Trimicrophone for the 13 Ultra), Satellite Connectivity

Make me imagine on modern successor for 808 PureView, had Nokia Devices and Services Division still standing strong today

                Still no Nubia Z60ultra review.

We think it's still not available for pre-order in Scandinavia. As usual.

It's mostly a refresh of last year's 13 Ultra. I'm disappointed in that sense, but were it not for the lack of a larger sensor driving the ultrawide and no 10-step variable focal aperture on the main sensor, I would've totally justified the £1,500 price. I'm sorry, Xiaomi, but at that price, offer me something else than just a rehash of last year's phone.

DBS, 25 Feb 2024My issue with Xiaomi is the same as I have with Oppo and Hu... morethat just means there's no phone yet good enough for you. That's understandable. All other brands besides the two you already mentioned surpass the others in everything not just cameras.

It's still wierd that they didn't put 120W charging on 14 ultra beucase 14 pro and even some 350$-500$ xiaomi phones have 120W,but other than that it's really good

Cwijaya.119, 25 Feb 2024I'd wish Xiaomi selling this device in Indonesia...stop dreaming, they don' even bother offering you last year's 13 series.

I don't need this much cameras

My issue with Xiaomi is the same as I have with Oppo and Huawei: they're great cameras in oversized, underfeatured Chinese hardware with absolute garbage Android skins that are only surpassed in badness by stock Android.

If I was buying these as only cameras, sure. But they're supposed to be camera phones and on the phones part they fail across the line.

                                  I don’t want a Xiaomi

Now the 14U is better than the 13 Ultra at least what people complain about the 13U, Xiaomi fixes everything from no 4K selfie, curved screen, a bigger battery etc

                                      Way too expensive
I could get the 13 Ultra much cheaper and the difference isn't night and day

If I'd wanted a hideous camera hump with a big display on the rear, I would gaffer tape my phone to the rear of my Canon. But I don't, so I don't.
