I've never used a BlackBerry device, so I don't much about this platform. I understand that BBM has it's own servers and is well encrypted. Is BBM service free or do BB users pay an extra fee for this? IF it's free for BB users, couldn't BlackBerry charge Android and iOS users a small fee for using their BBM service and make some cash that way? IMO BB/RIM has to give BB users exclusive functions or discounts over Android/iOS users in order to keep their users and their platform alive.

No more than 10 minutes ago I had been using BBM voice over the wifi and it was just as clear as a decent mobile call. Well in fact essentially a nice long chat between GB and Aust. Works like a dream. I use BBM every day and email - no issue for me .

More 'out-of-the-box'apps, are they pushing us into rooting our phones on the first day to delete these things if we don't want them?
I mean, they could make a prompt wizard at phone setup if you want to download and install from the app store on phone first use or deny. Me I had to root my phone just to delete facebook and twitter.

Anonymous, 07 Jun 2013Watsapp is crap.. its not universal.. No PC/Mac/iPad/Androi... moreWell, that's just your opinion, whatsapp offers a set of features, take it or leave it. I don't see BBM featuring PC/Tablet support either.
And thank you both for going offtopic.

BlackBerry, Apple, what's next? Chili, Broccoli, Banana, or maybe Durians? LOL. It's not the problem whatever the brand is. We need the functionality. :)

i agree with some comments here,
in my case i favor the old messengers, AIM/MSN/Yahoo/ICQ... (you name it), most people who i message live in other countries and they mostly use MSN, but i've had my other accounts on different messengers for years, way back to the 1990's, and most friends i have since then still use the old messenger when they are at home or office from their computers, where no BBM or whatsapp work, so i use the old style messenger, if i am on my phone all i need is that it connects to internet (wi-fi/data/ you name it), and the proper app, with whatsapp or bbm... is the same story, you need the phone connected to internet somehow to send a message, about the status, i find the old messengers more flexible to this, you can put yourself invisible, or offline, or online, or away, or whatever you want, and still answer messages however you want; share a link? you can do it with all; share a picture? you can do it with all; send a file? you can do it with all! (save for whatsapp and bbm for some files); share your location? you can do it with all!; send a message or get a message while you were offline or sleeping? you can do it with all of them!
there is no real reason to completely move from one to another, unless you need to communicate with someone who only uses a computer, in which case, i would stay with MSN/AIM or yahoo, but for the rest?, i only use whatsapp to talk with people who refuse to install any-other messenger on their phones and wont give their msn/aim... as for bbm i have never really had any reason to use a blackberry, had one for 3 days, a bold-9000 and it was enough to hate anything related to that brand

I'm using a 9320 and the LG L9! To be honest I think from my side bbm is good over whatsapp! Why? Its more secure I don't have show when I'm online if I'm texting the next person unlike whatsapp. I personally favour the privacy when I'm texting some1 without showing I'm online.

Kabbi, 07 Jun 2013WhatsApp is good for people who travel a lot like me, so no... moreWatsapp is crap.. its not universal.. No PC/Mac/iPad/Android no call tablets. etc etc.
Until they clear their heads and provide it universal support regardless of platforms.. then its good.

AnonD-72581, 06 Jun 2013What is the hype about whatsapp, I dont understand the idea... moreWhatsApp is good for people who travel a lot like me, so no roaming and extra fees. Other than that no need for a messenger service at all.
