this is called greed. they want to milk customers as much as possible. all this caused by a trendsetter company. which makes flagship phone market less interesting, boring and stale.

Anonymous, 28 Feb 2024Sd cards , the sure way to loose your data.remember, cloud storage is also lead to data loss. because you are storing your files off into somebody else's computer. they can delete or alter at any given time.

Phones that still offer a micro-SD-card slot do it as a combined slot, where both mSD and SIM card sit on top of each other, (like a sandwich) so not taking up any additional area of the phone.
In fact, there is absolutely no technological reason to not include a sim-card slot. The connectors probably cost 5 cents and the user gets relatively cheap user-replaceable memory. Especially in phones that claim to be for createors and offer 4K and 8K video and uncompressed RAW files and what not - things that eat up memory like sliced bread.
There are actually only two plausible reasons not to include an SD card slot:
1. These companies don't want to sell you 1 TB of memory just once! They want to charge you every single day, every week and every month of the year, by offering cloud-storage.
Now, cloud storage is expensive in long run, it depends on ultra fast connection and on large data plans - and if you are on vacation somewhere in the mountains or on the beach, and don't have connection, then you are doomed because you cannot access your photos and videos, your documents and recordings.
2. The second thing to consider is that when your data sits in a cloud, the owner of this cloud has the possibility to use your data in order to train their AI machines / large language models or sell it to other people, data traffickers, intelligence organizations etc.

Samsoong, 29 Feb 2024Hey, where does Samsung want us to use this card? Their pho... moreSamsung could've still provide microSD slot in their newer flagships and lock it with software or hardware trick so it could only accept Samsung cards. I wouldn't mad even if they do that.
Still win-win for Samsung and customers.
Sony can get away with their proprietary M2 sticks for their handycams years ago (though they switch to TF eventually) so Samsung could do the same.

Anders, 28 Feb 2024These will go nicely with a Sony flagship 🤣🤣No one is giving a red cross to your comment as of my writing, so common sense still wins the day. Just saying.
Also, it shouldn't be a problem to use it on any other gadgets like cameras, drones, and gaming handhelds.

Internet coverage is a complete joke in both me and my mum's hometown, so completely relying on cloud storage for offline use is a no-go. That's why I still deeply value having microSD card slot on smartphones in 2024.

Anonymous, 28 Feb 2024Not really. Those cards are mainly for cameras and IoT devi... moreI mostly agree with your points that microSD use cases are lot more than just (Samsung) smartphones. However, my point was that Samsung could have easily discontinued with MicroSD slots in models such as A53, A54 (and M/F series equivalents) as soon as it stopped providing 3.5mm jack few years back. Upper mid range models of most brands (xiaomi, realme, iqoo, vivo, oneplus, moto edge) have anyway got rid of sd cards (as well as 3.5mm jacks). But in Samsung's case, keeping this revenue stream open could be the incentive to continue providing card slot in those models.
