Samsung is now mass-producing 1 TB microSD cards, sales will begin in Q3 '24

28 February 2024
The company is also sampling SD Express microSD with 256 GB capacity.

This makes absolutely no sense since they dropped microSD card support themselves in all major devices.

1TB MicroSD were already a thing since 2019

Nitz, 28 Feb 2024This must be the reason why Samsung is still continuing wit... moreNot really. Those cards are mainly for cameras and IoT devices. You get a microSD slot in cheaper phones because people who buy low end smartphones demand it, like 3.5mm jack or insane battery backup. It's a different client. Why would you want a microSD card in your S24U, if you can get 1TB of space and you can always store data on your cloud drive? Why do you need cables when there's LDAC or SSC over BT? microSD card is a very specific need nowdays and you could argue if it's really needed on the phone market.

AtomicMarrow147, 28 Feb 2024Sd card are still a good option. Especially of laptop and ... moreFirst, I doubt there are devices with built in SD slot reader that support SD express speed. So you would need a separate proper external reader. By then might as well get an actual external SSD. SD cards are really not designed for permanent long term storage anyway. They are quite easily corruptible.

Quite a few odd comments here... let's clear some things up:

Micro-SD is a widely used standard. These cards are used in industrial equipment, micro computers, laptops, tablets, and of course phones.

It is also not against the law to buy a Samsung micro-SD card and put it into a device from another manufacturer, so whether Samsung have micro-SD slots on their high-end phones or not is irrelevant, because the market is much bigger than just Samsung phones.

Another benefit of micro-SD is that you can just put it in an adapter. The card is now useful both on micro-SD devices and fullsize SD devices.

This must be the reason why Samsung is still continuing with microSD card slot in Galaxy A, M and F series including upper mid-range A5x models.

It's just weird to see this news in here when it's not phones related

AtomicMarrow147, 28 Feb 2024Sd card are still a good option. Especially of laptop and ... moreWhat type of PC and laptop your talking about that needs SD cards ?
My mind is blown to see that laptops or PC needs them for storing data.
I have used external hard drives for backups and usb stick flash drives.
We even now have usb stick flash drives that have over 400mb/s writing and reading speeds so you basically can have windows 11 installed on them and run it trough usb 3.2 port.

raspberry pi makes sense but thats like android go phones that are not able to do much

Can't wait to use one in my shiny new S24 ultra!

Zendroid, 28 Feb 2024So s25u will have sd slot? Otherwise it's no use. There's something called "Other devices". It slipped your mind?

So is there any chance, that these news would probably symbolise the divert of contemporary manufacturing approaches of no having sd card slot?

An end of this dark era? Would so much want. Together with return of 3,5 mm jack, only think about it.

                          😺☺️🤗

Zendroid, 28 Feb 2024So s25u will have sd slot? Otherwise it's no use. There's the A series at least.

Nice. If only I could use them on my phone lol. The higher end you go the more difficult it is to get a microSD slot these days. You're mostly doomed to either a midrange (and watch it, because even these are phasing it out like the Redmi Note Pro series) or an overpriced Sony flagship.
