Leaving the EU for too long will make you lose access to third party app stores in iOS

Also what ads in App Store? Promoted or Featured stuff can hardly be called "ads". All app stores have this.

Anonymous, 07 Mar 2024It's already spilling to Android with how much Google ... moreSince Android 11 Google has blocked access to Android/data (which is where all app data is kept) and this literally broke the functionality of backup & restore apps.
You cannot access this folder even if you use your PC.

They also introduced "scoped access" which meant that apps could no longer access the entire SD card just from a single permission, but now apps have to create a single folder and they can ONLY access that.

The "correct" way now for apps to store data and allow users to access them is by creating a subfolder in Android/media. Some apps have updated their functionality across all versions (e.g. WhatsApp) so even on my old Note 9 that runs Android 10 it has already updated to use Android/media.

Since Android 12 Google requires apps to randomise their folder name (before it was an easy-to-guess fixed name) so that other apps cannot target them and change them (for example most Google apps are well known e.g. YouTube = com.google.android.youtube). These scrambled names are randomly generated (so no one can guess them) AND they regularly change.

They introduced many other under-the-hood changes that locked Android down more and more simply made life harder for people who love rooting and flashing ROMs (like myself) because root access by default relies on being able to bypass general restrictions and allowing apps to see and control what other apps as well as the system are doing. Compartmentalising and sandboxing every app makes root all but useless.
