But again, K50 Pro also doesn't have 4K60, so my point is correct. Massively powerful hardware, intentionally crippled with stock software.
Cutting costs seems like a reason, till you question why they wouldn't let aftermarket apps do 4K60... then it complicates. Because, the hardware & horsepower is there.

But yes, right about Mediatek. Although, many Snapdragon examples exist, with SD 865 onwards. Before that it was ok.

It is abysmal for the same phone series that is 3 generations ahead to have striped features like that. But the k50Pro also has a Mediatech chip inside so i don't honestly think qualqcomm is to blame in this case. Maybe xiaomi cutting down costs?

What I'm saying is, K20 Pro which was launched in the past, has 4K60 recording, it still does. Only the newer phones like K50i don't, that's all what my point was.

Sam N8 808 owner, 21 Mar 2024Correct, but here's the thing: K20 Pro did 4K60, K50i ... moreLooks like some sort of segmentation on stock software, f5 can do 4k60, 720p480, 1080p240 on custom rom. Theres even a 720p1920 and 1080p960 mode though those are likely just interpolated.

"The Sony IMX582 inside the Redmi K20 is an equally capable camera sensor but it lacks the ability to record 4K videos at 60fps. This is something which is possible with all the three camera sensors of the Redmi K20 Pro."

Is it possible they removed it so the two phones dont differenciate? Not like that would make any sence, im just trying to get their reasoning. Do you own the phone? Are you sure It doesnt have 4k60 now? I didn't find anything about having such a feature removed online and i guess something like that wouldn't be ignored so easilly.

Do you own the regular K20 and not the pro maybe?

Yet, the software prevents use of after-market apps, like open camera for the same. That's genuinely sad.

Asus did 4K120 in zenfone 8 and 9. Spellbound, but it is not sold in my country officially.

Reasons for these random feature cuts, when the hardware supported it, are beyond my comprehension.

I would like to comment on 2 things:
-Since Mediatech is taiwanese shouldn't the K50i have 4k60? how is qualcomm preventing that? Maybe 4k60 is simply not a priority in the chinese brands?

                      - Dimensity 8100 was never thaat good. It was pretty meh for something released in 2022.
Im not familiar with open camera sorry.

Ps: Something i noticed from your last comment. You mentioned "Flasghip killers". Its only natural that a "flagship killer" will have reduced performance compared to an actual flasgship and the cameras is a common culprit for that. The chinese market tends to have more of those "flaghsip killer" phones, so maybe that's why it seems that way?

its a smurf, 20 Mar 2024The 865 is from 2019 so how is it relevant here?Because, the trend hasn't changed.

Even with a flagship chipset and a certain model of camera sensor, most chinese mobiles can't record 4K60, something is fishy, right? K50i does only 4K30 with the mighty Dimensity 8100 under its hood.
                        Poco F5 also does 4K30, a snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 powers it.
Open camera app used to help till a few years ago, now (suspiciously) its useless as if somone disabled it, Google or Mi or whoever..

Let me explain, I would consider flagship killers as cheap phones with flagship chipset/SoC, usually with mildly-compromised hardware like 1080p (90-120Hz) display.

Redmi K50i at Rs. 24,000 was a FK.
                                Mi10T at 23k was a FK.
Poco F5 at 26k is a present FK.
From Oneplus' house, you only get a certain "Nord" midranger in these prices.

Now coming to chinese branded flagships:-
Oneplus 12 with SD8Gen 3 costs Rs. 65k for base model.
IQOO12 5G costs Rs. 53k for base model.
Xiaomi 14 costs Rs. 70k for base model.
With these prices, they're nowhere close to being called FK, you get premium Samsung S-series in this price (not saying that a Samsung is inherently superior, but still).

The issue is that, at that price point, some manufacturers simply decided to opt for an older Snapdragon 8 Gen chipset like 8 Plus Gen 1 which sounds better. And it is better.

It's taken so many steps backwards. Not sure why its even called an 8 Series SoC.
