Weak than gren 3, sad!

I'm understanding the Qualcomm game. They're controlling the market with planned products & now they want to make it less obvious.

So far, if a Snapdragon 865 is fitted in a 1. LG/Sony/Samsung phone vs 2. a chinese flagship killer, The LG/Sony/Samsung phone does 4K60 and 1080p240 easily, while the chinese phone can only do 1080p60, (for mysterious reasons).
At one point of time, using Opencamera worked (Redmi Note 4 Pro recording 4K in 2017), but it too stopped (again for mysterious reasons). Now we know why...

Now they'll have different leagues openly, while they've existed since years now.

Shame on you Qualcomm, why can't you just make a product and stop getting involved in market politics?

We could expect a chip that has AI, graphics similar to SD 8+ Gen 1 and better CPU performance than SD 8 Gen 2.

bad news guys : the flagships killer just got killed.

Akashi Seijuro, 18 Mar 2024In that case, why even bother calling it an 8-series Snapdr... moreSnapdragon 7 series SoCs don't usually get the highest performing ARM cores (X2/X3/X4 etc) early in their lifecycle like 8 series SoCs or higher clock speeds for CPU cores like 8 series SoCs. And they don't get the latest version of other features like Bluetooth/ Wifi/ ISP/ Storage/ RAM etc. We don't know how much performance reduction this SOC has when compared to SD 8 Gen 3 or 2. If it performs half as fast as SD 8 Gen 3, then your criticism of naming this as 8 series would be valid (7 series naming would be appropriate in that case). If the GPU performance of SD 8s Gen3 is not that low when compared to SD 8 Gen 2 or 3, then this naming is fine. We will have to wait for reviews of the devices.

If the GPU is undercut by a huge chunk but still maintains a good peak score, while being better compared to older flagships such as 8+ gen 1 or 8 gen 2(I doubt it personally) it's already a winning formula.
I'll take well sustained stable almost flagship tier performance compared to heavily throttling flagship performance (870>>>888/ 8 gen 1). SD 870 was the past best example, it was the best of the 600series adreno GPU which performed with an excellent stability compared to 888/8 gen1 with newer 700seried gpu which gave good performance but throttled after few minutes.

For gaming and other heavy tasks, sustained performance is the priority compared to the peak performance. Hoping this 8s gen 3 or 7+gen 3 will be the actual spiritual successor to SD870

If priced right, this will be a great chip, for those who aren't heavy gamers and want a more reasonably priced phone.
