Sony Xperia 1 VI might give up on the 4K display and tall aspect ratio

Except they could stay sony with severely over pricing worse than the rest while still cutting corners.
They could be offering less buggy software, more updates, and dusplays/cameras/batteries/speakers that haven't cut corners and fall behind the rest aside from "4k". Yes the last model finally started trying to close that gap.

And yes cool on flagship with and 3.5mm...but not when it's mixed bag of side steps, downgrades, and small upgrades from my couple to few year older phone.

Plus Sony is pretty much the only company to offer flagship phones with both an SD Card slot AND with a headphone jack

      I really like the Sony brand. But I don't like that the latest models are tall and narrow. If you look at Samsung's new model, they are wider - thus easier to view photos.
      Sony's narrow model does not allow you to view photos well on the screen.

Now only Kyocera remains as the only one who actually makes their phones in their home country. Before this it was FCNT also( 99% of their phone where made in Japan).
          Sony phones are mostly made in Thailand. Sharp phones in China, and Sharp now considers making a new factory outside of China somewhere.

            Which brings us to a question:- Why was Snapdragon 695 artifically crippled? I'm sure of it.
            Because at one point of time their specs said "max video record 1080p30". Later they changed it to 1080p60... Can you believe it?
            At best, Snapdragon 695 is a powerful midranger for the budget conscious newbie or minimalist user.

              Hmmm if they do that with the 5... It'll probably be my next phone. Only reason I'm not switching my Samsungs to an xperia 5 for many years! Unless Samsung gives the Ultra cameras to a smaller device.

I just complain about the 4K recording because it's predecessor's predecessor, Snapdragon 678, has 4K recording, so it's kinda weird for a 695 as the successor of 678's successor to not have this feature, even though I'm not really using 4K recording that much.

                  Looking at the gsm comment section. Sony XPeria is proven always get people attention than apple iphone and the plastick crap K-pop brand. Even they are now turn to niche market bisness model. Sonty always get people attention from all around the world ....

                    Its actually a 1644p screen (3840x1644). This makes it about 200 pixels wider than a 2K display, which is 1440p.

                    Essentially, its mostly useless.
                    Desktop is anyways shown in 1080p to save power, so lol.
                    Movies are rarely streamed or encoded in 4K. No media is made in 1644k.
                    Games will slow down, as mobile GPU's are still weak, considering we've had very quick refresh rate increments (60hz to 165hz in last 5 years) and plently new games too.

                    So, its 4K just for the sake of spec sheet. Good decision by Sony now, to remove it..

                    May I suggest them 3360x1440 pixels? (That's 21:9 in 2K format)

I also find the Snapdragon 695 to be perfectly enough for regular daily usage, that doesn't include gaming, and I certainly don't game on my phones, plus battery life is insane with it, stock android might help that on Moto phones, and I'd probably hate the 695 if I had a Redmi/Poco device with it tho. No 4K recording is a bit of a bummer, but I almost never take videos with my phones, and even when I do, I set it to 1080P 60FPS, so I can share it easier, after that I'd delete it anyways.

                      So yeah, I'm one of those people that knows, I'd use a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 powered phone the exact same way as a Snapdragon 695 powered phone, because I have both, and the gigantic performance difference doesn't bother me.

Plus, I don't spend more than 3 hours a day on my phone, so battery is my main priority. I also don't really mind with some heavier phone.

                        But again, like you said, back to our own preferences.

                          Over price more than others while cutting the most corners in hardware, software, marketing, and release.
                          Being behind on many common things while being ahead in one or two.
                          Never letting people know of their existence which causes poor sales.

                            Good move. Hope they would deliver something better and more useful this time. But please, keep the 3.5mm jack.

                              The reason it didn't work out is because they were behind on to many things and didn't do jack sheet to get the phone in people's hands.
                              Most people don't even know if their existence.

                              The 4k could be a selling point of they actually worked on getting the phone out for sale and advertising.... but as if they weren't already saving enough costs on hardware and software compared to others and marketing and advertising and country release now they have to cut more corners instead of actually trying.
