Anonymous, 13 Jun 2013You can't change these facts:
1. Only a Symbian phone ca... moreaccording to me only Symbian is the only true mobile os ppl saying that android is highly customizable I don't think so moving icons here n there is not customization droids didn't support themes where as Symbian supports themes u can change the look
in Symbian u can make as much folders u want in messeging where as droids don't support
Symbian has great pwer management and optimization even with 680mhz and 256 ram Symbian has true multitasking im using e6 rite now 8 apps r running without any glitch where as droid cant to this
u can play games on droids but if u have charger near by u only then if ur travelling u can play games or u cant use ur apps coz battery drains quickly where as symbians have great great long life battery

Who cares, more and better is to come. If you feel sorry for the 808, wait and see the EOS. If you miss Symbian apps, notice that WP8 has more apps in a year than Symbian had in five. If you miss the customization of Symbian, well, since three years it's been left behind. Now it's time to hear what WP has to say. Don't disappoint us Microsoft, although if you do we aren't remaining clueless anyway ;)

You can't change these facts:
1. Only a Symbian phone caught the serious attention of proper camera manufacturers,
2. Symbian was the only OS that dominated at any period of time. No, Windows mobile never dominated at least in the past.
3. Its the only high end Nokia smartphone OS that has a File manager. :D
4. The best musicphone (Nokia N91), the best cameraphone (808 Pureview, but that's gonna be second best soon), all were on Symbian.
But frankly speaking, Symbian is killed by Nokia and no one else.
They were leaders once with version 7.0, and they updated their platform to OS 9.0 with no backward compatibility. All old apps were useless. Developers were at loss. Still, Developers had to work hard to make new apps all over.
Then again, suddenly Nokia realized that its touchscreen age... So, they made Symbian 9.4 (5th edition)... Old Apps incompatible.
Then Symbian^3 was a big leap with multi-touch & capacitive touch. More compatibility issue! Now, the older Symbian 5th edition apps work, but they aren't fun at all.
Developers are tired of making new and new apps, as per Nokia's fantasies. They have a solid reason to move out of the Symbian world!!
And only Nokia & their short sightedness is responsible for this... Lack of Vision killed Symbian. :(

At a time we need energy efficient smartphone more than ever, we are losing Symbian, and will instead, we will have... what?
Something quite almost there in features terms, but that cannot stand more than 8 hours without being recharged, an almost finished and quite closed OS, but that is not lacking of pizzaz and almost as energy efficient as Symbian, a completely closed OS that can only stand being USB connected if it had an I-software already in computer, and this just to charge the I device, with ease of use for its only quality and some new players coming, with some good features, but still not launched...
For now, I will stick to my E5 (an S60 3rd FP2 phone, yes!). When I will have to another smartphone, I only hope all the platform will be as features filled and energy efficient as Symbian, if it is not a real Symbian. Maybe this would be a pipe dream. *Sigh*
Farewell, Symbian.

Its amazing they sold 500,000 Symbian phones with absolutely zero (in fact negative) marketing. That means 500,000 people actually went out and despite the US tech-media based negative perception of Symbian and Nokia own dissing of its product sought a Symbian phone and paid hard cash. It's telling that only now ios7 is introducing stuff symbian owners have enjoyed for years! http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/flow/item/17708_iOS_7_looks_to_catch_up_to_Sym.php As a European working in tech who used to take pride in Nokias dominance in mobile watching their kamikazee descent to become an OEM for MS makes me weep.

4 as long as my nokia c5-03 and c7 works i will continue using it. It pains me 2 see dat a company like nokia don't have android phones, take a look at techno is a company that is just coming up and they already have android phones. so this should be a real challenge to nokia i am looking foward 2 the day when they will have google.........so that they can give their customers what they deserve. UP NOKIA

AnonD-30796, 13 Jun 2013What a heck are you talking about... symbian??? is a flop, ... moreFirst of all, you cannot compare a device that was out before android was even born. That's kind of lame don't you think? Second, use n8 701 or 808 and then talk.
And this is for nokia, who destroyed symbian by willing: 70% of the people who buy android crappy devices are buying cause you can find only android crapp in every store. No personality useless devices. 40% of them are not even happy with that crap, but 30% of them have never used symbian and they heard of it only in trolls tales. So, what can people buy? Nothing or android. While you destroyed symbian, others are ”upgrading” their crapp os into what symbian had since it's day of born. And what are you doing? You follow the crapp path of locked os's. Symbian is not an os, symbian is The OS that was riped of by other developers and sold in different shapes with less functionalilty's and in crappy devices. While others are still feeding every less breath of symbian. Nokia abandoned it to them. Nokia never sued them for stealing everything what symbian had and promote like it was something new. Nokia never promoted symbian and never did nothing for it. Nokia abandoned symbian since they bought it... For the rest of unknowing mass? Shhhhh, i'm not interested.

Reading this article really makes me sad. I remember those days when Nokia was still the top smartphone manufacturer and symbian was still at the pinnacle of the smartphone OS hierarchy. Before Whenever I hear the song "in my heart by moby" it was Nokia's theme back then it makes my heart thump. then it was like the N-series is a gadget from the future. I had like 3 symbian smartphones and I guess 2 of those were N-series. Now Symbian smartphones are being almost obsolete by today's standard. I am now using a SG note II and it really works fine. Now whenever I hear the song samsung's theme song "over the horizon" it reminds me that it is a different world now, Nokia is slowly moving back and their presence in the smartphone world is becoming lesser and lesser. this news really makes every smartphone geek's heart sad.

For me, Symbian is still more reliable than Android. Though, it is really the end of the road.
