Pumpino, 22 Mar 2024The reasoning is that if an update fails, the other partiti... moreIronic how my 7-year-old Nokia 8 dealt with seamless updates smoothly, and it was much cheaper than any Samsung low ends in the market, even at the time of purchase. And it took less than a minute to upgrade from Android 7.1.1 to 9.0.
At the same time, I'd like to call any Samsung a "patience tester" in the world of slabs. Why? It always gets late to implement practically useful features (excluding the gimmicks nobody asked for), and make it feel "beta" until the end of life. Not a surprise, if the A55 is a beta product, and S24 series would continue to not get any seamless updates

My problem is that is not any settings to stop any updates!
As a Samsung user from galaxy s1 i can tell you no updates ever repaired a software or hardware problem, didn't make it faster or run cooler, didn't save the battery more.
So , the software updates are for those who don't want their phone to last, to get what they paid for or they can afford to change it every year ,or don't they don't care if the software runs slow.

Anonymous, 22 Mar 2024I don't like this seamless updates from the start. ben... moreAgree. Also, you don't start a system update when you're on the rush and need your phone. Just wait for an idle time, and start the update. You'll surely have 5 mins. And in exchange, you save yourself 4(?) GB of free space.

Yikes. Samsungs current update process was superior to Googles "seamless" updates which takes longer, still requiring a device restart with both options. I prefer Samsungs current way which is faster. Smh Samsung is losing its identity....

Anonymous, 22 Mar 2024How about android stop forcing updates like microsoft?
If... moreAndroid never did? Idk with another vendors but at least on my Xiaomi and Samsung, it will only start downloading for update when I click the "check for update", and I can just simply pause it.
And yeah Microsoft ironically downloads the system update in the background without user even notices it. I remembered I was running out of mobile data once just because Microsoft downloads the update on the background, and I don't even know that because they don't give any notification when they start downloading the update.

Cpt.Power, 22 Mar 2024It does not matter much seamless or no still samsung had mo... moreObviously the system is still running when you download the updates. Traditionally though, after that, you will have to reboot and then wait for the update to be installed. In theory, this feature eliminates that, by having 2 copies of the system partition and installing the update on the second partition in the background. When you reboot, the phone system simply reboots to the updated system partition, eliminating that downtime.

seems an useless feature. Not using our device for a while shouldn't cause psychological injuries to anyone

It does not matter much seamless or no still samsung had more updates than rest of the most.
And still at least for me when i was downloading updates in Samsung phones they were perfectly working during the downloading and installing time so it was like this ability is already there.

It’s a nice feature, but imo it’s something most people won’t notice. I mean look at our computers. We have been accustomed to see and wait for updates to be installed. This just reduces the risk of bricking as there’s a backup of the original system partition.

Damm after a long time they finally implemented a/b partition. Maybe add proper fastboot support like other device too?

its a smurf, 22 Mar 2024That's just lame. From the article you've sent ... moreIt's not lame. There is a risk in partitioning. If the phone runs out of battery during partitioning, the file system may be damaged, the phone may not boot, and all data may lost. This feature is for mitigating the risk of system update failures. If it comes with a risk of making the phone unusable, then its benefit will be nullified, which will make it pointless.

SShock, 22 Mar 2024Wasn't Google enforcing this feature for the future? T... moreYes, Google is mandating it, so Samsung ultimately doesn't have a choice. However, I agree with the possible explanation offered in another post that Samsung may have delayed implementing it due to the size of its ROMs. Now that phones are coming with more storage, it may not be as much of an issue for Samsung.

are we now happy for silent, unattended and forcefully done sw updates? :) Thought that is something bad and evil, but apparently the less customer uses his/hers brain, the better for journalists...

Pumpino, 22 Mar 2024There's no way that Samsung would rearrange partitions... moreWasn't Google enforcing this feature for the future? That phone makers will HAVE TO adopt this updating method in order to offer Android on their phones? I'm pretty sure I read something about this several months ago.

I think this is the reason Samsung will not sell A55 in the US Market. They are selling it as a beta testing machine. If this fails then they will receive flak and issues in the most important US Market.
