Apple tried to make the Apple Watch work with Android phones

Apple bought Dark Sky, then suddenly Dark Sky isn't “compatible” with Android anymore. I wonder what technical limitation that made it incompatible in the blink of an eye.

Anonymous, 23 Mar 2024I’m conflicted. I understand they don’t want to break down ... moreProfits would be a lot less if they made it compatible with Android phones as well, lot of people would choose the Apple Watch, but not an iPhone, with the current way everybody has to have an iPhone to make their Apple Watch work, and they profit more on their phones.

PepperPot, 23 Mar 2024I agree. I would have purchased one. I prefer the square d... moreKeeping people completely in the apple ecosystem is much more important to them than whatever additional profits they might make by allowing Android users to use the apple watch. Apple bought out Beats, so they couldn't claim they are suddenly incompatible with Android. BTW, while you can use airpods with android, but you will be missing features.

Poor, impotent fruit-logo company. It tried, but it couldn’t. ☹️
What a lame excuse, this is kindergarden-grade argumentation.

So you're telling me the worlds richest design & marketing brand was working 3 years on something related to android and failed. Got it.

"technological limitations" most vague and nonspecific excuse ever. If this was true, they'd more into detail but this smells of fake

This is an excuse. I don't mind Apple giving you extra features if you pair with iPhone, but not allowing you to pair with an Android at all is just stupid.

I don't see the problem. There are plenty of smartwatches that work with android so I cannot understand why android users are making a fuss.

Just look at beats. It profitable for this very reason. That's why I think they genuinely tried to make it work.

I highly doubt it. Apple hasn't tried being compatible for over a decade now.

Wow, what incredible bs.
All watches use bluetooth. They don't use some alien type of connection no one else has. All you need is to develop an app that compiles the data the watch sends via bluetooth.
People get Doom on vacuum cleaners, but Apple "can't" make their watch work with Android.
And even if they couldn't, that would mean their devs are worse at their job than a middle schooler with a PC.

I’m conflicted. I understand they don’t want to break down the barriers of their walled garden ecosystem, but the Apple Watch is also the best selling smartwatch. Widening its compatibility would bring in a windfall of profits.
