RoterDrache, 26 Mar 2024Great move from Sony to get rid off that 21:9 ratio display... moreStop lying.

Screen of 1v is about 15,2cm tall. Then you add 6mm bottom bezel.
Screen of other phones are taller than 16cm. Then you add 1,2-1,8mm bezel.

Well, no 4K no Xperia 1 means no Xperia 5 anymore. Good move Sony, now only bring down the price to what Xperia 5 used to be, then none will be able to compete with you

People who could afford and willing to paying 1000€ for the Xperia 1 complaint about short software support compared to Samsung or Google who offer several years of security updates.
Even though many of those "wealthy" customers change their device after 2-3 years they still want software updates for many years just in case they use their smartphone for a longer period of time. It's like people buying a Porsche Cayenne with all kinds of extra/additional off-road
features but never even come close to an off-road terrain. It's just the "if I wanted I could" safety feeling.
                  To sum it up:
                  Get rid off 21:9
Get proper high quality displays like majority of Chinese OEM use (Xiaomi, Huawei....) ever used a Xperia 10 V? That thing has an awful display!
                  5-7 years Software support
Rival the Galaxy A5x Series with a affordable mid class compact Xperia
Improved AI Camera Software where you can make great photos in Auto mode (just point and shoot)

1 vi losing one of the biggest Sony features, that really sucks

                      Wide screens are absolutely disgusting

Darth Caesium, 26 Mar 2024If 6.8" is too small for you, what's big enough? ... moreThey're obviously a troll

Appropriate move. The 21:9 screen makes the phone too tall since they use bezels too.

Great move from Sony to get rid off that 21:9 ratio display. Too expensive for a gimmicky screen that had zero to none advantages for the vast majority of consumers. Yes, for split screen usage it was beneficial, but how many consumers use the split screen function regularly?
If you read reviews about Xperia 1 from customers they complain about the device being too tall so it makes reaching the top of the screen harder despite being narrow. Also you read about black bars left and right while watching videos since you'll find barely any content in 21:9.
What's great is that Sony sticks to full screen displays with no cut outs, punch hole for the front facing cam. That's their USP.

Besides the notch and the camera, those are Sony's phone main selling points. If they remove them, maybe they will lose some loyal customers. But for me, no notch is enough already. 😌

They should've listen to their loyal customers, not gambling their fate for the general consumers.

Will it still give Asians yellow skin? Or is that only the pro versions issue?

Great thing I got the Mark V. If rumors of more software support for these and the Mark V models follow through, at least I can be more satisfied with this purchase as someone living in the US.
