There are two models this time around. Both use the same screens, but the Pro has the better chipset, cameras and battery.

Vivo is on a roll prepping the launch campaign on this unusual but highly anticipated foldable. Whilst Samsung is stuck for not putting expandable storage, headphone jack and pen slot for the next Z lineup.

Eh, it's a matter of preference if anything, I have phones with side mounted fingerprint scanners as well, and they are really fast and accurate, but I just don't find them comfortable, to me it's easier to unlock with an in-display scanner, especially because I have always on display on, so the moment I touch my phone where the fingerprint scanner is, it's just there ready to scan instantly and I'm in. The best thing is, ultrasonic works even with dirty and wet fingers, where other scanners struggle. Altough as weird as that sounds, the one in my Moto G84, which is optical, also unlocks with wet and dirty fingers, none of my other phones that have optical scanners can do it.

I have to wait 0.00 seconds for it to read. If Vivo's under-display scanner is this fast, I am impressed.

Besides, side mounted is better than under-display because you can unlock the phone while waking it up, and even while still getting it out of the pocket.

Tmn, 27 Mar 2024Is it stable? Do you find any bugs in Origin os?It's stable yes, but no software is bug free, and I've seen some strange things, but they are fixing them with software updates. For example right after updating to Android 14, my phone would sometimes freeze on the lock screen and I had to lock it and unlock it again, it didn't need a restart or anything, just that was enough. About 3 days after the Android 14 update, vivo gave my phone another software update which fixed the issue. Then there is the occasional bug where Android System WebView doesn't want to update, but everything else does, but a restart fixes that, plus I don't find that app too important. That's about it though.

…this is it! The Vivo X Fold 3 Pro will be my first step into foldable phones! Its has all of the specs and the best camera and camera software for a foldable while being thinner and lighter than the iPh…(*kicks out due to not being relevant to the conversation*)

Samsung, this is how you make a flagship foldable! You got way too comfortable and that software advantage is wearing off.

Oh I'm not expecting that, but it's far from zero, it's actually really common. Yes being better means something, but not a lot when they've started so bad.

Their lab tests cannot mimic everything people do to their devices in the field.

I'm not convincing you or anyone to buy a fold. It's not my money, but if you're expecting a zero error rate, that's never going to happen. That's an expectation normal slab phones haven't even accomplished.

It doesn't look, or feel similar to anything, including MIUI (Hyper OS), Color OS, and even iOS.

Anything and everything is customisable, and it's full of great features, though my favourite is the fingerprint scanner, I can change the look of it, the animation, and even the size, plus because it's so big, it can be used for two-finger verification. Feel free to ask me about Origin OS, if you are curious about something in particular.

Unfortunately I have to stay with Samsung because of their big trade-in value. Hopefully the fold 6 will catch-up with these chinese foldables. Samsung is very slow in adopting new techs

Anonymous, 27 Mar 2024The thing is though, why is Samsung still in the 2nd place ... moreBrand recognition, everyone knows Samsung, but most people don't know any of the BBK brands, maybe they know their name, but not much else, and they don't trust them, plus high-end BBK phones aren't really available outside of China, and most people are scared to import, because of how the warranty would work, whereas with Samsung you can just walk into one of their stores anywhere and everywhere and get your phone fixed.* This is exactly why Samsung isn't even trying anymore, they don't have to, anything and everything they put out will sell well, even if their phones have a lot of negative opinion about them on forums (For example the A54), and even if the competition is clearly superior. The other reason is their software support, even though it's clearly not needed to be so long for most people, very rarely do people keep their phones for more than 3 years, and there are already people saying they will switch from their A54 to the new A55.

*To which my opinion is that if they provide so many opportunities to get their phones fixed, they must need to be fixed often. In my experience, I never had to repair any of my chinese phones, imported, or not.

Anonymous, 27 Mar 2024The thing is though, why is Samsung still in the 2nd place ... moreA) Marketing budget. Samsung is king in this dept.
                                B) New market penetration for BBK brands where they also face:
                                C) China bias of the west and patent issues also caused a hiccup.
                                D) What the US did to other Chinese company, Huawei. Causing potential new adopters to ask themselves "Is it worth the risk buying a Chinese smartphone if it suddenly gets banned and no more OS updates and support?"

Funny enough, this is possibly why OnePlus did so well in Europe and US. The name didn't indicate a very Chinese entity.
One cannot escape the fact that non-Chinese named products does so much better.
Just look at Roborock domination in Europe's robot vacuum space, despite it's origin.

Im not defending them of course, but if this new competition were crushing them, they would be as dead as HTC right now. And the Samsung will weights over 250 grams and will not come even witzh 5100 mAh cell.

Let's see if this will make it out of China. If any phone brand is going to be successful, they must win over the global market.
