Galaxy AI is coming to 2023 Samsung flagships tomorrow

27 March 2024
This means the Galaxy S23 series (including the S23 FE), the Galaxy Z 5 foldables and the Galaxy Tab S9 (but not the Tab S9 FE duo).

...But hey! At least by not having it built in your software, your private info stays more private! 👍🏻

Anonymous, 27 Mar 2024I wanted to buy an S23 until today. You don't have to use the AI features; also if it really does go behind a paywall, just don't pay the fee.

I'm comfortably using Windows 11 23H2, with all Copilot features disabled. Proof that AI is more of an option, not an enforcement (at least, for now).

AI has its uses, but I do worry about user privacy in regards to requiring a persistent internet connection for the AI features to work. I would rather have the AI translation done directly on the device, i.e. through a special section on the chipset, which is kind of what Apple is doing right now: https://www.techradar.com/phones/iphone/the-iphone-16-pros-chipset-could-be-designed-with-ai-in-mind

While cloud-based AI is convenient, I guess, due to it being accessible by most any internet-capable device, it's also a security and privacy risk, especially when you consider how much sensitive data it could have access to. While I don't believe Samsung themselves would use it for malicious purposes (though I can't completely discount the possibility), there is the threat of hackers stealing your info off of the cloud.

It's not a bad thing that Samsung is trying to support older devices, though. Kudos to them for bringing newer features on older devices!

justasmile, 27 Mar 2024If they can do it on S23 FE, why not S22 then?Google S22 Ai features, Samsung is trying to get them on S22 series but some AI features are hardware based.

Watch and learn Apple 🍏 this is how you treat people who bought your previous expensive garbage
Not by pretending they never existed & making them feel they made a mistake
And there's Samsung giving AI to the s23 Fe and excluding the s22s

If they can do it on S23 FE, why not S22 then?

Why is there a difference in the wifi and 5g tablet update dates? You pay more and wait longer

This will soon come to all samsung phones/tablets, It does not need a flagship to run it.
