Another way hmd (the chinese entity) mocking nokia technologies.. These devices are worse than 2007 nokia . not because its 2g .. Because they dont have wifi , very narrow multimedia support , no pdf , no app store , no email , no tethering

They should have added 3G bands to all the phones, that would have made more sense

That was a specific post for Indonesia

It is the BAND that matters. The lower the frequency band, the higher the range.
a 600Mhz can reach as far as 40km

Apart from your points, another even more basic, but crucial, factor is the RANGE

                  35 km for 2G cells
                  10 km for 3G cells
                  5 km for 4G cells

                  According to
                  https://unstats.un.org/wiki/display/MPDMIS/a.+Flat+method

                  (Ideal flat land conditions)

So you would need FIFTY 4G towers for every 2G to provide coverage for a thinly populated flat rural area, from a high point.

So MUCH cheaper for the carrier to stay on 2G here.

The longer range also means 2G can cover much further from the coast line, from a high point.

Many of "third world" country were sunsetting the 2G/3G.
Meaning, while 2G (and perhaps 3G) still available, they might not buy new base station spare part. When it broken, they just canibalize it.

In the past, in 3G era, base station were very expensive, so many country can't have the latest generation of base station.

But then, huawei come in the late of 3G era, and early 4G era. Huawei priced their base station very competitive compared to nokia & erricson solution.

Now many African nation and south american nation will make a jump to 4G/5G era.
