JamesSpencer, 13 Apr 2024Vivo need to ensure all phones are with a global rom. Cu... moreBut you can easily "activate" Google play store on Vivo China ROM without installing anything from shady web site

200MP at 100mm is crazy. Can't wait for this phone, though slightly disappointing that they used the 8 Gen 3 not the mediatek.

Vivo need to ensure all phones are with a global rom.

Currently all Vivo phones on AliExpress are chinese rom based.
Europeans with lots of money, not buying Vivo because of this silly silly mistake!

Also a 7 inch screen would be nice, Excellent phone, with Excellent screen and Excellent Cameras

The arrogance is huge in this one, lets compare the rx with gcam 1" phone? it will get demolished.

All just hype.. I've had most flagship Android phones mostly, not into Apple ecosystem.. No doubt smartphone cameras have improved over the years with great features including AI, but as a photographer myself, nothing beats a professional camera made for a specific purpose. Physics always wins, smartphones can't accommodate larger sensors and do not have the flexibility of switching different lenses for different purposes. As for colour reproduction, some like vivid and some like real natural colours, it's personal preferences. For me, I like the real close to natural look so that I can edit it later on. Also displays on most smartphones do not faithfully reproduce the desired colour space (sRGB or DCI P3) so you cannot edit photos on smartphones with precise colour accuracy.. 🤔 Anyways, let's see what Vivo brings to the table.

It is possible that the X100 ultra will be hype and the resulting difference from the X100 Pro will not be as significant as we expect.

I find the discussion below silly and pointless. I have a Canon G7X M2 and a Vivo X100 Pro. It often captures more detail, but also often lags behind the Vivo (especially at night). If you don't have a tripod at night, even a DSLR with a good sensor is not enough for smartphone night mode. And image stacking in HDR offers amazing DR.
It's up to everyone how they can use their equipment.

Btw. I have even Lumia 1020 - It can't compete with Vivo... nor N808. Be reasonable.

Yes, because the user I replied to was claiming that the Quad Bayer sensor wouldn't be able to resolve as much details as a regular Bayer sensor of the same resolution does. Your RX100 wouldn't be able to do that because after the 2x crop it would only have 5MP which would never outresolve 12MP.

"How about crop out of imx989 vs crop out of bayer type 1.0?"
Assuming that the lens is sharper than the sensor and there's enough light to work with, the former would win out because it simply has more resolution to work with lol. If you find maths hard then that's your problem, not mine.

"2024 and still pixel size story? FWC is not affected by it. Photodiodes are not all equal."
Go to your nearby Samsung store, shoot some photos with S24 Ultra's Pro mode in both 12MP and 50MP and tell me which one is noisier. The read noise of a sensor increases as the resolution of the sensor goes up, and there's a certain threshold where this becomes visible and overwhelms the advantage of having more pixels. On a large (MFT to Full Frame) sensor used on a dedicated camera, this wouldn't become an issue until the ISO 6400-25600 range. On a phone sensor that is significantly smaller, even shooting at ISO 800-1600 would make you feel the difference.

Anonymous, 13 Apr 2024It is not rx100 that needs sharpening mixed with noise redu... moreIt doesn't "need" noise reduction, Sony just decided to let the photos on RX100 Mark I stay noisy because its processor can't even run half-decent noise reduction algorithms to get rid of the noise efficiently. At ISO 6400, RX's JPEG is run over by severe chroma noise reduction that destroys colours and details become utterly obliviated. RAW files wouldn't be good either because Sony's RAW compression back then messed up the colours hard and added a strong green tint to the shadows which could never be removed.

Ask GSMArena to pick up a used RX100 Mark I and shoot the usual low-light hotel shot. I can guarantee you that it would look like a TRASH.

So fun to see someone like you who has never picked up a dedicated camera and blindlessly believes complete nonsense like this.
