How does it compare to your average i5 laptop? I'm sure you're allowed to make basic comparisons, especially if they favour said product.

Both Microsoft, OEMs, devs and Qualcomm have spent tremendous efforts for this launch. I have been privileged enough to be beta testing these things for last month or so and things are drastically different than what has been the case so far with ARM and Windows. There is nothing more I can reveal without breaking my NDA but just wait for initial reviews on the embargo date.

I don't see the benefits of this. ARM for Windows is useless and neutered. I severely dislike Apple and everything they stand for, but I would advise anyone to get an Apple ARM laptop instead, because it supports more programs. Even ARM Linux would be better than ARM Windows.

It won't go well. Passively cooled laptops in my opinion are fine if they don't thermal throttle or are over 80c at maximum use/load at an extended period of time.

Do you expect really Snapdragon to be cheaper then they litteraly murdering Intel low power chipsets? It's directly aimed for MacBook M series replacement, it will not be cheap at all.

"All laptops need fans 'or' some superb heatsinks, 'especially' for gaming, productivity or rendering."

Don't jump the gun. All processors need heat dissipation and better heat management. The new Snapdragon X series probably isn't made for entry level laptops. They are probably for mid rangers and high end systems. Also, short bursts are fine, but anything longer than a few mins, its a good idea to have good heat management system in place.

I Don't believe the real one will be close to that thinness, by these images it seems like it is thinner than the usb c port, usb c port is literraly overshooting the body, i believe it would pose structural rigidity issues

Could you please explain to me why ALL laptops need fans? If I'm working and answering emails on the train, I don't need a 2000 RPM fan with a volume of >30 dB - let alone the other passengers.

Not everyone uses a laptop for gaming.

I would be pleased if more thought was given to the matter and people thought outside the box before writing something.

Anonymous, 19 Apr 2024It’s ARM so better battery life is expected. It's not when Microsoft's spaghetti code is running on top of it. Apple solved their backwards compatibility through top notch emulation and basically had all the apps ported in basically 1 year time when they introduced ARM CPU's. Windows for ARM has been around for over a decade and it's still horrid. What makes you all think it's any different now? It doesn't matter if Qualcomm makes the best chipset in the world when 30% of its performance is instantly lost just because it's running Windows for ARM?

Hopefully Snapdragon X Elite processor price doesn't kill the enthusiasm for Intel and Apple alternative laptop chips. Also fanless is a bad idea. All laptops need fans or some superb heatsinks, especially for gaming, productivity or rendering. And considering that this range is being advertised as a premium product, it's essential to have great heat management.

Its success depends on the performance of the OS, especially when the laptop isn’t charging, and software compatibility.
