Compared to what even a cheaper quality dongle offers the output is just bad.

It''s all outsourced.
Then there is the issue of software, with DAP you can get away with bad android like recent Walkmans because the only real purpose of it is to listen to music, maybe a streaming app like Apple music or Deezer but that's it. Can't say the same for a full blown phone with camera and sim card.
I honestly prefer if they keep it like M3X, maybe collab with Xiaomi or something, it'd be even a Blessing (no pun intended) if they give the phone a two-year software updates.

Gustavo, 23 Apr 2024still you're limited by your phone's power output... moreI do use a powered PD hub to preserve phone battery nowadays.
I have been satisfied with Final E5000 and Senn HD600 for over a year without any itch to upgrade 😂.
E5000 is a flawed piece of engineering. No IEMs should be this hard drive. But it is a beautifully flawed piece of engineering. Powering it is worth it to me since I am happy with it. It is my musical IEM.
HD600 is when I want to clean my palette. Pretty old, not that great, but I like it.

The average IEM sensitivity is like 36 ohm or something with low end and no name cheapo even lower and that means for the 97% users it's good enough, of course if you have exotic headphones like STAX that little power won't cut it but why would you plug it into a phone?

Gus, 23 Apr 2024why do you need loudness that much? I'm 54 and only ev... moreI don't really, that's my point; although on my current Note 13 pro i did have to raise loudness because in too loud environment, like subway, it was not enough. But generally all DaCs do indeed have more than enough power (With software tweaking), unless they are used with high-ohm headphones (Which is mostly a gimmick to make audiophiles feel special. Especially for a phone where they will be used mostly outdoors).

But doesn't sharur hate Etys now? He is a moondrop guy now. I think he EQs moondrop variations to other IEMs graphs and 'review' them nowadays 🤦

Sony's availability is also very poor in many countries. Even Japanese people don't buy it

Anonymous, 23 Apr 2024This could be similar to Android-powered Sony Wallkmans. There hasn't been a real competitor to the modern Sony Walkman, so it's surprising to see a relatively small company like Moondrop decide to challenge its dominance. This should be an interesting battle to look forward to, especially for the price and the features between the two.
