After holding in hands a Unihertz Jelly Star, a 3" phone with a FP scanner, dual sim, microsd slot, infrared blaster, 3.5mm and 256gb of storage with 8gb of ram.
Any big phone claiming "there is no space" makes my eyes roll in disapprovement.
I don't need it all, but such a small phone having it proves it can be done.
As for this phone, I expect it never getting any updates at all, juat like the Unihertz I just mentioned.
With the difference that the Jelly Star is a 209 euro phone on Amazon, while thich thing will probably be more than a Fold 5.

Hope it can reproduce the sound amazing, via cable and Bluetooth with every headphones, if not is pointless!

Wooow that's so cool! I'm a big fan of Chu IEMs and Space Travel, I have both. I recently got an iPod Classic and it's now my main device for music, but I'll keep an eye on this phone... very cool news.

jiyen235, 22 Apr 2024I'm using the Moondrop Aria and I must say apart from ... moreWhile I would agree with everything you've said here, they should use a Snapdragon 7 Gen 2 chip instead of Snapdragon 7 Gen 1, as Gen 1 is manufactured on Samsung's 4nm node and runs really hot and has battery life problems.

I'm using the Moondrop Aria and I must say apart from the longevity, everything is bang on.
I think this phone could have a place in the smartphone market as a niche phone instead of one for the masses. If it has an SD card slot and stereo speakers along with the headphone jacks then it has an AMAZING baseline.
Couple that with a 5000 to 7000 mah battery and you get a killer music player. Remember, modern flagships are heavy not just due to the battery but also the camera equipment, so this phone won't be THAT heavy, for example the M32 was 180/196 g even though it had a 6000 mah battery. The Red Magic 9 Pro has a good main sensor (at least for a gaming phone), separated batteries and a built in fan along with some cooling stuff for the 8 gen 3, all that adds up to the 229 g. I tried an iPhone 13, Galaxy A32, Galaxy M32, Galaxy S22 Ultra, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro Max and I forgot how the older phones like the Galaxy S8 felt but I'd say 180 grams like the A32 and the iPhone 13 is extremely comfortable and until 200 grams there's no issue handling a phone.
Then they could do certain things to target different price points.
4 Gen 2 and 90 HZ IPS LCD for 200-400 dollars
7 Gen 1 and 90 HZ OLED for 500-600 dollars.
Anything more would be much appreciated.
I believe the camera could be refined by having the secondary one removed and having a good quality main optic like the OV64B which has stellar 2x zoom, if not then get a 1/2" or bigger sensor for the main cam with good sensor cropping or get a 2x dedicated 1/3.5" and bigger telephoto and you'll have a winner. It's easier to walk back and get more people in frame than it is to compress the shot and get the beautiful compression of 50mm and higher focal lengths.
I know the prices I stated seem outrageous but for a nice phone doing things no one else is, is it actually crazy? A 90 hz OLED screen with a 7 gen 1 will easily run any task you throw at it. 128 GB base storage with option to expand with micro sd card by 512 or even 1 tb would be ludicrous. Remember, these phones have dedicated headphone jacks and if they have DACs/Amps then they'd be used by audiophiles exclusively and imagine a phone that's like a portable DAC/Amp and an audio player that also does your job and can take decent photos. See where the value comes from? A very niche situation but I think if priced well (under 700 dollars) this phone has some place.
They could go even further and provide good quality DACs/Amps and charge 1k usd. Why? Take a look at the FIIO M11S, 500 USD, just plays songs. So yeah. I hope Moondrop can make a name for themselves here, we need some niche phone makers to make a statement.

Never underestimate a companies ability to ruin an interesting concept by making terrible decisions. I'm looking at you Fairphone.

This is interesting for audiophiles and maaaybe people that works with audio at some semi or professional level. The back design is nice too, with Sony Xperia-like corners.
