StormyParis, 25 Apr 2024Around me, people are switching away from high-end phones i... moreI can understand that. Midrange phones are basically 95% of flagship phones for less than half the price. In Europe, why would you buy an s24 instead of an a55 when you get exynoss either way, but with less battery life, and no autofocus on ultrawide anyway. Waste of money to buy flagships.

"as well as in terms of upgrades since the rate of revolutionary new features has slowed down."

New features haven't just slowed down, they have also been removed.

Just look at a Samsung Galaxy S4 from 2013 as an example.
          It had:
          -SD card slot
          -3.5mm jack
          -Infrared port
          -compass
          -barometer
          -temperature sensor
          -humidity sensor
          -air gesture

          today an S24 has:
-compass (no dedicated app, only through edge panel)
-barometer (no dedicated app, no access at all)
          -fingerprint sensor
          -samsung dex

I just switched to an iPhone for the first time in my life because I need a small flagship and android doesn't have such a device.
S24 has a small main sensor 4 years old and no autofocus on the ultra wide, also exynoss trash.
            Xiaomi 14 is to large.
Pixel 8 is no pro, also trash soc and battery.
So the iPhone 15 pro is really the only option for us who like bricks in our pockets and hands.

We have been at peak smartphone for a few years already. A flagship from 5 years ago are still good enough for the typical smartphone tasks today. This is even more so with iPhones as their SoCs had been class leading for years. Even an iPhone XR still runs well on iOS17. The latest spec won't make you scroll Instagram any faster.

I wish manufacturers pushed for more smartphones with projectors maybe by now the technology would get much smaller

And it would actually give smartphones a brand new user experience

Everybody forgot about apple’s headset, the apple car was cancelled, apple lost to Epic, Europe won with the DMA, The DOJ is now suing them & now this…? 😅 (All apples will eventually end up rotten)

geordie81, 25 Apr 2024i mean this isnt surprising, check out phone prices 6 years... moreYeah, I always forget how progress has slowed down because I also percieve time differences as smaller in recent years. For example, it's pretty hard to believe that the iPhone 11 is as close to the 6S as it is to the 15.

i mean this isnt surprising, check out phone prices 6 years ago vs now, and also check the advancements in the iphone, the biggest push has been the processor, with the camera coming secondary, the body is what 5 years old is it? and people are not going to upgrade yearly at modern prices. there is also the small matter of market saturation, the smartphone market is heavily saturated even in the USA where they have little actual choice
