Xperia 1 VI and 10 VI camera islands' leak suggests new larger modules

26 April 2024
Both are physically larger than the protectors for their predecessor but that may not translate to larger camera sensors.

Ottonis, 26 Apr 2024Please have in mind that even just a larger lens aperture ... moreApart from larger sensor, different lens designs might be an actual theory, but I find a bigger aperture highly unlikely.
Reason being, larger apertures beyond a f/1.7 or so, do more bad than they do good.

You get more light, true, but there' also a high amount of highlight clipping, softness and purple fringing.. plus, the background blur is not always welcome in a wide angle main camera.
Its better to get more light by a bigger sensor and limited megapixels.

Anonymous, 26 Apr 2024Removing 3rd cam of 10 series just like done to 5v. Sony ... moreIt mostly can they just did a bad job at making the software that does it

Give 3 os updates and 4 years of security updates to both and we'll talk.

James.D, 26 Apr 2024It literally does nothing as the main camera can be used fo... moreWe want to get more things for our money and not less, and from all of the "lossless" 2x shots that I've seen, most of them fell short to a dedicated telephoto, except for maybe vivo

Launch them cool things in India, goddamn it!

the design look like more Pro camera lense than the others try to be pretend like pro/ ultra phones.

If the latest and greatest from Sony (1 VI) does not use the newest Sony LYTIA sensors (like LYT900), then it's a serious disappointment. Also, Sony's stacked imaging software, HDR software and shutter speed lag still need a LOT of improvement.

I don't mind the high price, but they need to up their photography game a lot, as Vivo, Oppo and even Apple are so much further ahead.

Please have in mind that even just a larger lens aperture - getting up from f/1.9 to e.g. f/1.4 - would probably require a larger lens area even if the sensor size stays the same. Also changes in focal length (e.g. from 24mm to 26mm) of the lens itself might require a lens re-design and hence take up more space.
So, larger camera islands might be compatble with:
                    - larger sensors
                    - larger lens apertures
                    - different lens designs

                    and any combination thereof.

Please just stick to your values.
Going over to industry leading product specs makes Sony the one coming too late to the party and leaving early.

For me, it's fine to leave out the tele shooter, but as a 5 IV user, I lack slow-mo capabilites. 120 fps is a bad joke. 3 year old Realme with SD855 can do 480 fps, modern mid rangers can do 240 fps. Coming from iPhone 13 mini, this was a real shocker. (though it got super hot and stopped recording) with eitehr slow-mo or 4K captures.

By stick to your values I mean, please keep: compact factor with high performance/good camera, long lasting battery, SD card (or offer storage up to 1 TB), audio jack.

I really use every single feature, and if even Sony budges become one of the many manufacturer with no clear differences, I will just switch to Fairphone. If it must be big, I'm trying to make it as fair as possible in the supply chain.

Why can't people who are not interested in audio jacks, sotrage extensions and compact forms just stop clicking on Sony articles?

I was using Sony Ericsson mobile, it was durable and the best. But suddenly Sony stopped it's sales in India, too sad.

I use Xperia since 2017, and always love the tall design with its 21:9 aspect ratio. Maybe Sony should consider to keep this design too, as another line in the future (e.g. Xperia 1 VII slim; like in PlayStation)

If the rumors about the 5 VI are real and there's no 5 Series anymore, that could explain why the 10 VI got a bigger camera bump.

It may mean it will get the 5 V camera sensors on it, and I think thats a great idea.

I'm praying Sony keep the screen ratio. It's such a good, unique feature

                                      Let's hope for a true 1" sensor and a 2x-5x continuous zoom
