People spend more money for flagship to get MORE than the cheap one.

If a USD 300 Samsung phone can give 5 years software support, a more expensive Xperia phone must give ATLEAST same time range (5 years) of software support.

    Well, 4 years security updates and 2 OS updates would be enough for me.
    It's very unlikely that I use a phone more than 3 years. I hate phones lagging and I use it as a smartphone(!)
    That means for everything. 4K video editing, games, FLAC music (sdcard!), and short of 90 apps.
    What I can't stand having a laggy UI or using a phone that is on its limit with using apps. And after almost 17 years of Android phones I learned one thing especially: The phone you'll buy today, no matte how good, is a measely snail after 3 years. Even with the same apps, because they get updated and use more and more power and memory. Just check for Google Maps in 2008 and now. Or Chrome... Don't get me even started with games.

    So yes, if your main usecase is to write mails or sms and phone home, you can use your phone 7 years or more (well, or until your bettery dies and you'll find out it costs more than a new phone to get it replaced). But then this phone, like any other flagship, is not the phone for you. You don't need it. And if you need it, you will get a new phone after 3 years or suffer from an old and slow phone.

                Sony Xperia 1 Mark VI will last like 4+ years easily.

                            The 5VI should stick to dual camera and have 8sG3 or even 7+G3 to reduce even more cost. The price differentiation between 1 and 5 isn't significant enough.
