Watch the Sony Xperia 1 VI and Xperia 10 VI launch live here

15 May 2024
No, the Xperia 5 VI probably won't be attending, but the Xperia 1 VI changes alone should be enough to carry the show.

Opps. Was watching this on a break...fell asleep.....woke up with a few minutes remaining.

The pre-recorded cringe speech lacked personality, all that money to land flat....the meh specs, design, and non competitive pricing....smh,..the red looks nice, the wider display is appreciated for typing, the camera app is awesome, wish their launcher was more intutiive , like hiding that awful navigation bar, and more customization. To offer so little by way of design and software, the price is hilarious

The livestream is cringy! The cinematography & production value are great, but the lines & the generic EDM music are just too cringy. It doesn’t feel dramatic when the guy at the end turns his back to you, i literally laughed at that.

Lines such as “Zoom into wonder” & “for the dedicated & passionate” are just cringy af. 😂

Whenever the camera fades into black, it gives off the same vibes as the Playstation State Of Play livestreams. But the thing about State Of Play is they’re sitting down in a black/white room & talking about genuinely exciting game reveals.

This livestream is neither exciting nor is it captured with a white/black room that is reminiscent of Apple’s old ads where Jonny Ive would talk slowly & dramatically with music playing in the background.

Sony’s marketing department is truly garbage, no wonder they failed smartphones!

Much better than Google I/O for sure. I feel like hardware-wise, Sony is just the removable battery away from providing everything someone could want (and I don’t particularly like the sharp corners for holding). However, pricing and software support are big weak points. At least this has been improved slightly. Also, the camera has been critizised in the past, but I don’t know how it actually is. I only know that there has been a trend in the smartphone industry to overprocess and oversaturate images with no way of turning that stuff off. So if Sony does not do that, that would actually be an advantage instead of a disadvantage to me, but I can’t judge it.

Only 4000 people globally watching this live? Wow that is terrible. Millions usually watch these things like you see with Apple’s product launches. Really indicates how little the Xperia brand means anymore.

so the missing desired features are :

              - radio FM or radio Dab+
              - sdcard dedicated
              - removable battery

I really miss the days of the lumias, where you could replace the battery of the 950, that way you can have as much updates as you wish since battery will never be so easy to replace.

Nowadays it is expensive to replace a battery, that's not very ECO friendly if you ask me, but we all know the ECO stuff is to keep robbing money from our pockets.

Sony is late, not much people will want these phones.

Rather delay all the way to nov or so.. and use gen4..

So Sony invented a hashtag called #NextXperia although Google's #TeamPixel hashtag sounds better. Pixel pioneered the industry by providing 7 years of software updates. If Sony decides to do the same, it would become the third OEM to do so, it would destroy Samsung and that would be the move that would put Sony back in business.

With all their expertise in the camera and sensor business, this should be levels above anything else photo and video wise. Yet, they arent.

I had Xperia in the past and didn't had issues like new bloatware etc after updating.

If I take Xperia 5 V example, Android 14 was released 1 month after the phone.
So for it his last major update should be if I am not wrong Android 15 around 12-15 month after the phone was launched.
No Android 16 even if it should be released around 2 years after the phone release.
Maybe you change your phone every year but not everyone does this, I am done with this.

An old phone won't keep up even withg updates. Instead with every OS update it gets slower and slower because OS and apps are getting more demanding quickly.

It makes phone more sluggish, makes it even more spyi and less customizable. It's their phone, not yours, more and more. It'll add spyware services, hard-coded adware , preteting you have control and it's more secure and optimized and blabla. Fact is, android becoming more and more 'crowded' and taxing cpu, battery and hou even doing nothing but sending data to home googoo, Samsung, or shady RPC 'gov'.

                                    That's about it

I care phone last longer, repairable ( really not just as fantasy), sturdy and lightweight and optimized ( I don't need stack over stack of AI assistant bugs y and stuff. If you like and want it, good for you, but I want the option to disable and disable I mean, really remove everyrhing, not hinding under the hood)

Root an android and trace what's going on. Whatcha how many useless or spyi processes are running even with as simple as adb. No one seems to make that effort anymore, it's becoming wide cosummer thing, not fan or expert or anything very smart. they make us stupid and lazy after all. Old guy rent but still, I know I'm quite near what's going on.

You may need to replace the battery, yes, but the software side remains good for years to come. That's only a good thing, no need to excuse Sony's horrible update policy - it's ridiculous.

It's good that media helps to shine more light to this subject. Long OS support is a very good thing.
