vivo X100 Ultra camera details leak

This will be a monster cameraphone, the likes of which the mobile world hasn't seen yet.

You kind of said what I said, just more detailed. iPhone takes the win when it comes to video in pretty much most cases, though the Xiaomi 14 Ultra isn't far behind. Check GSMARENA'S review, they were particularly impressed by the 14 Ultra's video recording. And consistency, across all cameras and all scenarios, the iPhone does perform the most reliably. But in regular still images, zoomed telephoto shots and other categories, the iPhone is surpassed. Like you said, in single categories

Sure, in single categories, they have, but even then it's never truly consistent. Like the Xiaomi 14 Ultra usually takes better pictures than the S24 Ultra or the iPhone 15 pro, but that's only if it doesn't blow out the highlights, which it usually does. It sometimes records good audio, and at other times you can't hear anything. The Vivo x100 pro also has inconsistent colour just like the xiaomi, when switching lenses. They both (especially x100 pro) have jittery telephoto cameras when recording, but not when taking pictures. The Vivo recording at night is horendous. While it does have clarity when you stand still, if you walk the lights jump around distorting the entire image to the point of making you throw up.

And this is all despite throwing huge numbers at the phone like above 5k mah batteries, best socs, largest amount of RAM, huge screen, heavy, etc.

It will be very interesting to see how it will stack up to the 1 VI from Sony, since it had its cameras leaked as LYT600 (16mm), LYT800 (aka IMX888, 24mm) and LYT500 (vario 85-170mm).

They share the ultrawide, kinda stand on the same ground on the main, but the telephotos will be the most interesting battle between the higher resolution/bigger sensor but fixed 85mm telephoto on the Vivo VS the smaller sensor but with actual vario optical zoom on the Sony.

WhoCaresTM, 10 May 2024I just brought up the battery as an example. If we're ... moreI will agree on the fact that iPhone's cameras are among the most consistent and reliable, but the Chinese manufacturers are catching up and some have surpassed the iPhone (e.g. Find X7 Ultra, Pura 70 Ultra, upcoming X100 Ultra...). And regarding the color reproduction, how did you even come to the conclusion that all Chinese phones have poor color reproduction with drastic differences between shots? Like I would understand if you said that about a certain company, but saying it about all Chinese smartphones like a single company is making all of them it's just not right. iPhone does take the win in overall consistency, dependability, and video quality, but regarding the many other camera qualities, there are other companies who are superior.

Samsung fp always worked great for me.
Optical fg will never be as good as ultrasonic ones. I've had far more misses on optical ones than ultrasonic ones. But then again, iPhone's face recognition beats them all for a 100% hit rate.

If we're talking cameras I can bring up the consistency in colour reproduction and stabilization across cameras, as well as smooth transitions. Whereas Chinese phones give you drastically different colours and go from good stabilization to none whatsoever when you switch lenses during recording. Or I could bring up the lack of cameras software upgrades during the phones life. Or I could bring up the fogging on Xiaomi cameras, etc.

Nick Tegrataker, 10 May 2024"Call me when you get lens fogging on an iPhone" ... moreLens flare from lightsources is a known problem. There is more then one lens glass stacked and they pick up the light and reflect it. Nothing you can do about it. With a filter they would loose light and this would be bad for low light conditions.
It's basically a limitation of the hardware. It's not a defect like lens fogging, where you have to take out the sim tray and leave your phone on 4k recording in a bowl of rice, like people suggest you do for the Xiaomi phones.

I got android 14 4-5 months ago so what lack of software support?you keep flagships for 5 years? android has peaked anyway and nothing interested is added anymore . Is easy for samsung to give software updates for more years since they release 99% the same phone every year, one update fits all

Anonymous, 10 May 2024Not obvious at all. 1. Analog pixel binning reduces read... moreWrong, in a low light condition shot noise is dominant not a read noise. Read noise occurs in a circuitry during image processing while shot noise depends upon available light, more light = less noise.
Secondly cmos sensor unlike the CCD can't do pixel binning without adding read noise so more read noise is added unnecessarily. Which could be avoided with a traditional bayer sensor.

Does anyone know why Smart Rings are so expensive right now.....? Literally, a few health sensors and a cheap ring........why so expensive? There is no way it costs more than $20-30 to make...... Seriously, no screens, cameras, modem, gps, etc, etc........How could you charge so much for these rings........lol

Sure you likely lose warranty but you would rather buy the pro version for the same price as ultra just to get warranty ? I never had a phone broke on me by itself in 10 years so I'll take my chances ,btw the ultra doesn't have just better cams, it has the ultrasonic big fingerprint sensor, better display, better speakers etc.
just put my x90 pro+ on sale and as soon I sell it i order the x100 ultra, my only beef with x90 pro+ was decent but not good battery life, seems that is fixed now with a hefty 5500mAh.

What's the focal length likely going to be for the telephoto?

Another phone with a loads of marketing bs. Companies should stop advertise their phone as a competitor of real camera. 1" sensor with a 50 megapickels quadbayer sensor can't even resolve half of resolution, it's only 12.5 mp. (less talk about other cameras is better as they don't even have 1" sensor). No continuous zoom, No mechanical shutter, no xenon flash, no tilted screen, no physical buttons and grip... how hell it can be an alternative of real camera? Even p&s like rx100v and canon G5xii can beat them in IQ and overall usability. Companies must be sue for such false marketing.

It is nice manufacturers are realizing that telephotos are more interesting and useful than ultrawides. Since the primary cameras have hit a wall at 23/24mm, which is wide enough for most scenarios, 'flattering' telephoto focal lengths are what makes the difference.

Within a year, these will tickle down to mid range phones. It already has started, but not enough.
