So far we've seen that Samsung's 10x crop/upscale from 5x optical isn't as good as 10x optical, not to mention Samsung's 2x crop/upscale from 1x isn't exactly pin sharp, so I highly doubt Samsung's 3x crop/upscale from 1x will be any better. With digital zoom you can use less cameras but you also lose RAW functionality entirely, and if I'm paying $1K for a phone I'd like true optical zoom and RAW capture at all zoom levels. Relying on digital zoom should really only be reserved for midrange phones where there's often no optical zoom camera.

They should better do something against distortion on the main cam. I don't know about the recent models but when I take photos with my S22 Ultra peoples' faces look like eggs when they are not standing in the middle of the image.

A welcomed move. The 3X camera on the Ultra sucks and isn't all that useful anyway. I'd rather have a bigger battery, a smaller phone or better hardware for the other cameras

So the s25u will be an s24+ in the body of the ultra model with average for the price cam quality front and back, this precieved view that apple, pixel and galaxy phones take better selfies is absolutely false and the "4k" recording can't magically change the sensor. Itll also look exactly the same as an s22u and will cost £1300 in the uk on launch with nothing in the box and for the base model with slow charging and no new beneficial hardware features, oh and give it a year or 2 and you'll hace another serious backdoor attack on the security chip which happens every couple years like iphones.
What a deal this phone will be, we all know it will sell stupidly well too, such a shame.

Having the 3Times telephoto has always been something that decreases image quality on the Ultra lineup.

Same goes for the S21U as well, the 3Times tele always has been a simple decrease in it's photo quality.
So if it's true i'm happy that they finally remove their image degrader.

it makes sense to ditch 3x optical with so many pixel on the main cam.it will save some internal space for 3 bigger sensors. we already saw 48MP is sufficient for lossless 2x digital zoom. as seen in galaxy s21, 64MP resolution is sufficient to provide enough pixels to zoom lossless 3x digitally. so, 200MP would theoretically contain enough pixels to handle 4x lossless digital zoom. 5x is where the periscope kicks in.

None of their prices dropped after removing charger and accessories from the box, now an Ultra variant loses one of its most useful cameras. You can bet it will be way more expensive, people will keep buying and won't even care, because they like to be fooled.

Rareart1, 13 May 2024I would much rather have fewer cameras that are the best po... morei agree but almost nobody understands this. when the Xperia 5V lost the (admittedly crappy) telephoto lens but gained an equal if not better zoom from the main lens people started freaking out like it was some sort of human rights violation and nothing anyone could say would change their mind. people lack critical thinking skills.
