This is sad. Tizen was meant to be Samsung's alternative to Android so I hope they keep developing it.

kupfernigk, 03 Jun 2024Meanwhile a 1960s Rolex or Omega is still serviceable. And ... moreSoftware support ends but you can still service all Samsung watches.

Yes, I have the Watch3 and still enjoy it very much! It's not a problem support is ending, I never download any apps and use mostly pre-installed apps except maybe a couple made by samsung that were not pre-installed. But the Watch will continue to work as it should so it's all good. I plan to upgrade to Watch7 if it's good enough and if the screen doesn't look like pale vomit like with the Watch4.

Yes, still using a Watch 3. It was the last one that could connect with iOS as well. Since none of the new ones do, I will not be buying another Samsung watch, ever. I genuinely don't understand why companies do this, but I'll probably go back to my automatic watches. They're 30 years old and then some.

Meanwhile a 1960s Rolex or Omega is still serviceable. And worth rather more.
Throwaway watches are a bit sad.

Guess I'll change to another brand, the Ultra doesn't seems to inspire me that much 😬

You see, you can say all you want about the "quality" of the Chinese products but the improvements they make are HUGE. Take a look at the X100 Ultra for instance, it has a bigger telephoto camera than an S24+'s main sensor.

What you're seeing and experiencing is only applicable for Samsung, Apple and Google, only Samsung and Apple "deserve" the status, Google has earned jacksh*t. Buggy software ever since the move to tensor, less powerful chips, overheating chips, battery isn't that great, etc.

Take a look at even Nothing for instance, yes the Nothing Phone 2 and 1 are fairly overpriced but that allowed them to slowly build up to the Nothing Phone 2 a and being able to create a solid midranger as a new company that provides just as much, if not more value than the competition is worthy of praise.

Another reason why your argument is flawed is because it's not even the companies themselves that are stagnant, it's their mobile divisions. Samsung's TV division pushes for innovations consistently, most high end TVs have quantam dot layers in the LCD panels and they also have made QD-OLED to rival LG's WOLED, which was stagnating. So actually Samsung themselves provided competition. Then there's Apple with the M series chips, Intel was stagnating and Apple created their own chip which was more powerful yet heated up less. Prompting others to try to improve as much as possible but for the most part Apple remains king of laptop chips.

So if you look at markets of different things as a whole and then judge companies, they're not always bad it's just that the most popular aspect of their companies, the mobile divisions, have horribly stagnated and that's what catches the eye the most. Besides, the average person still is too gullible. Pretty sure a large amount of people bought the S24 series not because of their supposed "well roundedness" but for the stoopid AI features. I got some of the AI features on my S22 Ultra as well but I have used them thrice and that was just to test it out. I knew it was just a gimmick yet tech journalists and mainstream media need to hype it up like the second coming of christ so they get clicks and garner attention for Samsung so they keep getting paid/sent devices. The thing that hurts the smartphone market the most is not the companies themselves, but the consumers and the horrible reviewers. Same can be said for video games, take a look at the FIFA (now FC) games, horrible pay to win games with little to no improvements (actually they get downgraded in a lot of ways) yet the reviewers don't criticize them properly and people keep buying which incentivizes the company to keep doing nothing. Sad, really.

My active 2 is still going strong even while I've been abusing it a little bit hoping it finally dies and I have a valid excuse to upgrade... maybe now I have.

Same as when I bought it. All bells and whistles enabled like, AOD, raise to wake, automatic exercise detection and everything else. Personally, my biggest "issue" with it is Android Wear's hard coded battery warning at 15%. That's a whole workday's charge one the watch, over 15 hours, and it is quite redundant.

jiyen235, 03 Jun 2024what even is this? A person can't even wear a watch fo... moreI am thinking the same way. Additionally, many smartphone/-watch manufacturers keep new technologies out of their products in order to introduce them step by step in the following years to attract consumers' attention with something "new" every time an "upgraded" version of a product is released. This is called "salami slicing tactics".
But now that AI became popular with the release of ChatGPT, companies can simply focus on old new software features (old because most of these AI functions have already existed for decades) which is much cheaper than R&D intensive hardware development.

I have a theory on the evolution of a product:

                                0. Some random guy has a great idea
                                1. Idea is being developed into a new product and focus is on its offerings.
                                2. If demand is high new versions are released with more and improved features.
                                3. Intensive marketing is being used to keep demand stable at a high level.
                                4. Additional models are released and are seperated into "standard/vanilla" and "better/pro" models in order to justify a price hike for the full set of features in the pro models.
                                5. Customers stop seeing the product as something useful. They start seeing it as a status symbol.
                                6. Companies can relax since demand and brand loyalty is secured.
                                7. Companies focus on how to maximize profit by implementing weak points in their devices to make them wear out and make consumers buy the product repeatedly (or selling charging bricks seperately to profit from them too etc).
                                8. Quality and features of devices stagnate.
                                9. Brainwashed consumers don't realize it, they accept what they are given.
                                10. A few people like us complain but we are a minority and therefore we are seen as weirdos.

Not going to argue if Samsung has malfunction in their USB C ports, only saying many waterproof smartphones prompt a warning, specially after being in contact with sea water. Never had that issue, the warning disappeared the next morning.

Maemo(read N900, 950) was an attempt to induce power usage of multitasking which now can be seen and felt in billions of smartwatches so now in that regard it actually still lives. But their is this software called, well a jio software still has is, they my previous employers so however Mozilla Firefox lives.
