Time runs out for Tizen-powered Galaxy Watches as Samsung plans to end support in 2025

03 June 2024
The last Tizen watch, the Galaxy Watch3, launched in 2023. The older Galaxy Gear series has already been retired.

Still has my GW3 Titanium Edition ... Because it's smooth as f--- and better than WearOS previously. Nowadays, perhaps WearOS is good but still no better in endurence than Tizen ... I still have more than 2 days of battery life ith my usage and the device is nearly 4 years old.

Could WearOS do the same?
I doubt it.

Bad decission, wear os consumes more energy, no other "benefits"

Just imagine how many ‘smartwatches’ a Galaxy Watch Active2 can beat even without any support anymore, at the same price. Not to mention the Watch3.

[deleted post]I read the official annoucement days before this article showed up.
And many watches that are not very old are basically not getting store support 🤷‍♂️

Don't give me that, I've had thousands of phones!!!! It happened to my girlfriend's S8 a while ago and the type c port had to be changed!! I have only seen this on Samsung

what even is this? A person can't even wear a watch for more than 2 years now? Yikes man, I used to be an avid fan of technology 10 years ago, now I loathe it.

Good thing I didn't buy a smartwatch, I used one as a teen for 4 years which my uncle had worn for like 6 years and my current one has been going on strong for 3 years, I had an accident on my bike a few times and only a few scratches are on it. Sometimes the classics are the way to go.

Planned obsolescence is so horrible I hate it. No removable batteries so you need to void your IP rating to change the battery or get a new phone, no 3.5mm jack meaning you need a new pair of earphones as soon as your current one's battery is going poof, software based slowdown of phones and now lack of support on watches.

What's happening to this world man? Why do people even care for "durable" tech anymore when they won't be able to properly use it after a few years? PCs run for like half a decade to a decade without much issues, TVs as well. Yet we're being forced to think that these are supposedly tech of the past (Tabs/foldables, laptops and VR being their replacement). I'm not even in my 30s and I feel like an old dude, being afraid of tech.

That's just not good from Samsung. It's one thing to simply not provide any more OS and feature updates but closing down an existing appstore like this is just part of a forced obsolescence of a device series which is still only 4 years old (for the Watch 3).

I'm still happy with my Active 2 watch and worried about closing the App store. This behavior I would have expected by low cost Chinese vendors but not from Samsung. I buy Samsung phones because their sustainability caused by long updates. This seems not be valid for Samsung smart watches. Shame on Samsung!

It's like Samsung pushing you to buy their new crap ones with Google and a nightmare of battery life!I still remember my best Galaxy Watch 46 mm where the battery last nearly 5 days ,amazing battery life not like this one I have Galaxy Watch 6 Classic 46 mm for a day of battery life!Never ever gonna pay for a Samsung product, half money of the product only for the brand as also my S24 Ultra bought less than 3 months ago donct want to charge by wire as "detected" humidity without even get in contact with even a drop of water!!!!

Thank you Samsung, might as well disable my watch completely. 4 years isn't old by any stretch. My Active 2 watch still works absolutely fine and I have no reason to stop using it other than SAMSUNG DISABLING THE STORE. Come on. Samsung claims to be green while at the same time creating huge amounts of waste by essentially killing features that you paid for. Disgusting.
