Weird. The previous iPhones all have at least 7 years of updates given to them. Then again this the non-Pro so not sure whether this is intentional.

The longest I've ever kept a phone was 2.5 years; the temptation to get a new phone with every contract renewal with my carrier every two years is too great, especially when it adds only a few dollars to the monthly payment. So 5 years is already more than enough for me, let alone 7.

But the majority of people who get new, high end phones will upgrade more often. Probably because they get them on contracts from their carrier and they upgrade when it's time to.

More than enough, it also says ,,minimum of 5 years'' which can be more than 5 depending on phone model.

Anonymous, 06 Jun 2024Apple has always been delivering five years of software sup... moreWell its called innovation.
At first hand its nice if you know you get a lot of OS updates but also apple knows with lot of OS updates people wont swap as often so their income from not buying enough phones will go down.
So on the other hand they friendly force you to buy new phone even if your old phone is still good enough by way your phone looks like its old and needs to be replaced.
Clever users know this and those less englighted will think its time to see their phones and get a new one.
Lastly all phone makes should give equal warranty to the number of years of updates in case of Apple minimum 5 years of warranty would be nice.
In case of Google or Samsung 7 years.
Lots of updates is useless if your hardware cant keep up with software.

Apple posts its minimum.
While Samsung posts its maximum.
If we tread down memory lane, Apple usually adds support for at least 2 more years (major update). While Samsung sometimes promises 3 but only makes 2 major updates.

There is no reason to apply an extremely long support cycle. Those phones at years five six and seven will have zero battery capacity left and will be super slow anyway. Apple knows this so applaud them for not over promising

YUKI93, 06 Jun 2024That's why I never bother brands like Sony and ASUS on... moreQuite true. This "official software support" most people have it as something sacred/the end of the world 😀. And after this "end" you continue like this. Until a month ago, I used 📲 Huawei at seven❗ years, with official support two 🤷🏻♂️. I'll still keep it second 📲 - everything works and updates Flawlessly 🎉 .

DaFink, 06 Jun 2024Yes Apple's is a proven record as far as software supp... moreYou are literally describing Samsung. OnePlus has admitted that offering more than 4 years of software updates is a "waste of resources." iPhone and Pixel offer good software, can deliver on their promises, and both can also deliver timeliness in their software updates, unlike Samsung and the rest of the Android OEMs.

Alishah, 06 Jun 2024Apple has always had five-year support window for their iPh... morethe 5c that came out with the 5s only got 3 though and not 5. the 6s and first SE are the only iPhones that got 6 generations while all others got 5 (or less) and only get security updates for 7-8 years. Apple wants people to buy a new phones at some point because the hardware could like you've said support more.
WWDC will show if the Xs will stay at 5 years or will get more and if doesn't get more we know the target is 5 iOS updates + 7 years security.
