Remember: this is from the release date.
If you buy the phone a year later at a better price (maybe), you only get 4 years.

Anonymous, 06 Jun 2024Where get that from hmm?Look at the source link to AndroidAuthority, they have the actual Apple-domain source link posted there (why didn't GSMArena just post that? - you tell me)

5 to 6 years was already what Apple did
But that's for all mayor updates, after these stop the devices often get few years of security patches after that.

[deleted post]I doubt your wish will be forthcoming. And if you feel you know a person simply because of the smartphone they carry, then perhaps it is your mindset that is the issue 🤷♂️

Another one i... moreYes Apple's is a proven record as far as software support is concerned, whereas Samsung and Google's are just claims right now. Whilst there is no reason not to believe those claims, I do feel that in an effort to both impress and compensate for Android's long history of sparce / uneven support, they have overreached and promised the moon.
It would have made more sense had they, like Apple have now done, committed to a more realistic 'minimum' term.

Apparently hardware problems forced him to update but there is no mention of software problems. The iPhone 13 mini didn't even have a high refresh rate, but evidently not even movie stars care. Here is the link to the epic article.

Anonymous, 06 Jun 2024Where get that from hmm?it's a bit misleading since he's making it seem like most or all Android phones get 1600 cycle batteries whereas in all actuality it's only a few companies, namely BBK, the largest phone group in the world.

Actually, there are more then one catch here. Another one is that Apple never promised anything about updates, but delivered while some Android brands already promised 3 yr of updates in the past but never delivered. Btw, what means to "promise" something in business world?!? Can I go to Samsung sales center, take Galaxy Ultra and promise to pay for it in future? Without any warranty, paper or anything... Just promise.

that's why after 6 month launching, it worth 10% less.
5 years support = 100%
4 years support = 80% value left.
0 year support = 0% value left.
some essential apps will be bricked by then, no longer supported

Kinda of misleading title since iphones are actually usable after 5 years. Google are delivering their products with outdated hardware while Samsung has that stupid market separation policy.

extended software support is the new buzz word. Off course it's nice to have proper software support (major, minor and security software upgrades) for a few years but the hardware needs to be potent enough to support it while still offering a nice, responsive device. I'm not convinced by the Google claims of 7 year support. It would be surprising to see the pixel hardware go that long while still making sense. Also, claiming such extended support only makes sense for more expensive devices with hardware that can decently perform for several years. I don't see that happen with hardware that is just enough for current use which is off course not the case with the targeted devices from Apple, Google (not sure about these although) and Samsung. With that in mind, getting assured support for 5 years makes more sense (instead of marketing promises of 7 years). Anyway, we'll have to wait and see.
