Most Android phones from the beginning already has a bootloader. Even if you want you can just install Android 14 on a 2016 Samsung S7 and no one will holds you from doing that. Unofficial, yes, but at least you can get the latest Android version, unlike iPhone 7.

Yeah that's not as much as Apple, but as you said, those vendors handle much more devices. And we're talking about an Android. Even Android 7, an OS from 8 years ago, still able to install 99,99% apps on Play Store.

In iPhone case, try buying iPhone 15 a month after iOS 18 release (that will be together with iPhone 16) and see iOS 18 out of the box.
