I wish this is actually real.
The periscope placing MAKES sense, given the fact that with a 1/2.3" sensor, you will need a 12-35mm vario lens to achieve a potential 70-200mm solution.

I'm not a fan of them, never used them, and don't want to either. But they are doing great in terms of sales. Oppo, Vivo, OnePlus and Xiaomi (along with other newer subsidiaries) are all doing good.
There's a large chunk of the population that needs a cheap phone as their tech needs don't go beyond social media consumption and they don't want to spend too much on a phone. In the low and mid range, Samsung and all Chinese brands are the same generic phones, with slight difference in the upper midrange area where Samsung's A series is slightly more reliable. Samsung's F and M series are ultimate pieces of crap, but there's a group of people with lower budgets who go for these or other cheaper Chinese models. Talking about quality in this range is silly.
Those who need more features and have the money to burn, they go for everything from Apple to Galaxy S and Z models, and also Chinese flagships that cost the same as Apple and Samsung. There must be some quality to them, which is why people buy their flagships. Sure, the overall quality might be better, if you will. Update cycles are obviously longer with Apple and Samsung, but frankly who the heck would use a Samsung (or any phone) for seven years?! In the flagship territory, Chinese brands are doing quite good, which makes me think that their quality can't be that bad!
USA is another story in itself. I don't even want to get into that discussion. Bans and sanctions are their ways, and sadly a lot of their population is hopeless and is happy with an Apple or a Samsung! All good if it works for them :)

I wonder how people have the time and energy to do this. I'm happier reading posts about the brands and products that I like or that I'm interested in. I don't care about the Chinese brands and Samsung to a great extent, so I don't bother going over to their posts just to bash their lovers! To each his own, I guess! 😄

In the UK, Vivo phones are not sold under contract at all, and they aren't that prevalent in much of the Western world. You cannot expect people to try out Vivo phones if they cannot even get them under contract. Now, switch Vivo with almost any Chinese brand, and the result is still the same.

People want to pay for the best possible!! and vivo is not a well-known brand to spend 1000 dollars and after 3 months it doesn't even cost 700 because of how quickly those Chinese brands go down in value.

Chinese companies like Vivo have had their sales massively hampered ever since the Huawei trade ban (which tbf was justified, but the US was too narrow in its scope, and American lobbyists may have persuaded them in order to eliminate competition), and this has left the market with a duopoly in much of the Western world. Why do you think India, China and the whole African continent are host to so many different brands while the West only has 2? It's because people don't want to and their politicians bar them from purchasing Chinese brands. Also, all three instances I've listed are very budget-conscious, and the levels of population allow for ultra flagships to also exist due to enough volume.
