Motorola Moto E14 arrives quietly: a £70 Android Go phone with some improvements

17 June 2024
Compared to the E13 from last year, the E14 has faster storage, some display improvements and faster charging (well, kind of).

e waste

anything that gets rid of eMMC in 2024 is good in my book. Meanwhile Xiaomi fans will still be defending their greedy overlord trying to sell $200 phones with eMMC

70 is too much for Android GO which for the most part lacks widgets like weather

For even less (or slightly more) you can get a perfectly capable flagship device from years ago

I‘m impressed by the existence of a £70 smartphone from a known manufacturer. That is even cheaper than the Redmi A3 (£79). And for that, it is actually decent, only limitation I see is the RAM. Maybe E15 with 3GB and full Android is possible next year. Or a 3GB variant for the same price in a few months.

So it launches at same price the G04 is now.

E14 is a G04 but with 2GB of RAM instead of 4GB, no FP sensor, a bit worse back camera, Android 14 GO instead of full 14 the G04 has.

G04 makes more sense then, and it has the overly bright orange variant.

Why would I buy this when I get a Play-2024 from my carrier for $99? Better yet, they just offered the Moto G Stylus 5G - 2024 for $249! Yeah, I know, not everyone wants to fork out $249 for a phone but I included it to show that good deals on much better phones than a Moto E14 are out there. Several choices available for around $100-$150. This phone makes no sense to me.

Go buy it if you want nothing but only headphone jack and micro sd card slot.

                    4GB would've been better.

No fingerprint sensor in 2024 is a joke.

Point is, that Nokia is actually a worse deal in many respects, and overall, it's at best a 5% better phone. Motorola Moto G04 is definitely a better deal, even with the lack of a 90Hz refresh rate.

Darth Caesium, 17 Jun 2024Sure. That lack of 90Hz is a complete dealbreaker though. S... moreI hope it's possible to install this phone's firmware on the G04 (considering that the measly configurations have better optimization in comparison to more expensive configurations of the same model) like in Nokia's phones.

If it isn't possible, then this phone can be considered as just another brick in the wall, or the epitome of e-waste.

With 2GB ram, at this point, I'd rather take eMMC over this.

Rise price for 5-10 bucks, but give more ram. That 1 less ram will ruin whole smartphone experience.

This is just E waste from all perspectives. No one in the US is buying this when you can get moto g stylus for free from carriers. No one in their right mind would buy this in Asia when you can get old redmi for that price .

2GB of RAM is just waay too little nowadays. They could have gone for 6GB at least and sell it for a little more money.
