Zygocaste, 29 Jun 2024you can do better in EVERYTHING. just because the phone wil... moreNokia phones never lacked in updates.
The only occasions where their software support was subpar, were the Nokia 2 (1GB RAM, 8GB ROM and a 32-bit quad core chipset can't handle Android 8.1 efficiently) and the Nokia 9 Preview (the concept failed due to Light Co. pulling out of the market, so the last Android version was 10).

If Nokia's software support is subpar, you haven't clearly used, experienced or at least noticed Oppo, Vivo, Xiaomi, ZTE, Realme and other Chinese brands within the same target market as Nokia (not including flagships, as Nokia doesn't cater to that audience to begin with). Most of these phones only got cumulative updates with planned obsolescence, not even Android updates or security patches.

Nokia doesn't apparently participate in the "illusion of value" strategy either, as most of their phones have their bugs fixed within 2 or 3 software updates. Samsung on the other hand, keeps the bugs unaddressed and implement bloatware-ridden cumulative updates that make their phones perform like snails past the warranty expiry.

Carol, 19 Jun 2024You can do better in what? In specs? Yeah, but specs are no... moreyou can do better in EVERYTHING. just because the phone will run "clean android", it doesn't mean that it will inherently be a better experience, or even an inherently good one. this is a hmd phone. nokia phones were produced by hmd. what was the software experience like on those phones? buggy and heavily lacking in terms of updates, not to mention the general slowness of features being added in stock android

not to mention the fact that chinese skins like coloros are quite good now, with good performance, lots of useful features and customisation options as well as an actual guarantee of software updates. it isn't a bad experience at all

sorry to say, but yes... phones like the realme 12 pro+ will eclipse the hmd skyline in most aspects. you can't just dismiss that for arbitrations' sake

Pity, I loved the good old Lumia phones back in the day - if only they were Android phones to begin with, Nokia would have been a major mobile phone contender today; when HMD took over they should have revived it. No matter, here's hoping they come up some flagship "Lumias" in the near future if they want to compete with the likes of Samsung.

Nokia's phones sell like hot cakes in our country, because they're comparatively cheaper than phones from other brands (makes sense due to comparatively less commission from sales and no marketing whatsoever, whereas retailers grift commissions from Xiaomi and Samsung products by overpricing them for our market), and the fact that most people are unable to purchase flagships and most mid-range phones due to low income and extreme expenses in our country. Those who live in countries with uncompetitive mobile markets and unfair prices understand, those who don't, won't.

I would only call a phone "e-waste", if the optimization and user experience is subpar compared to what the specifications suggest.
The Nokia 2.3 with a Helio A22 and measly 2GB RAM, easily outperforms almost all Samsung A0x series phones and Xiaomi low ends. That's the power of Nokia's optimization for the least of specs.

The pill camera complements this design well imho. The camera island in the renders, makes this phone more or less like a Vivo Y series phone today, but there's a resemblance to the camera island of the Nokia N97 too.
